Random Question-Gas Prices-How Low Was It?

Question for everybody.

The other day, as my kids and I stopped to get gas, I told them I remember gas being $.89 per gallon when I was in HS and started paying attention. You would have thought I said I used to play with dinosaurs when I was little. They were like WOOOOOOWWWWW.

As gas prices continue to rise toward the $5 mark, I'm curious how much was gas in your earliest memory?

I remember when I was in high school when gas prices still under 2 dollars a gallon. At least we are not in Europe where the gas prices are way up around 8 dollars a gallon.

In all actuality gas prices have been historically low when you take into account adjustments for inflation-- that .89 for a gallon used to be worth a lot more than it is now.

I remember sitting in the back seat of my parents baby blue Rambler station wagon at a 76 station with the big orange ball, gas was 29 cents a gallon. When I was in high school it was 60 cents a gallon and people were talking about it going to a dollar a gallon, most people said no way, it will never happen in there life time....Lol!

Btw, Yeah, I went to high school with Enoch, he was in my class, but he didn't graduate, one day he just mysteriously disappeared and was no more.

I think it was like around $.99. But within a couple of years it was over a dollar.

I think the cheapest I ever remember was $.69/gallon. I remember how ridiculous it seemed when it got to be over $1/gallon. Who would pay over a dollar for a gallon of gas? Hahaha

I remember gas prices at $.29 when I was a kid and then between $.30 and $.50, when in high school. It's hard to believe the prices have gone up so much.

I know when I started driving gas was still under$2, but I didn't actually pay attention to the prices. I do remember that gas prices went up to $2.12 on the day I graduated high school because I made a joke about it on the way to my graduation! The gas station didn't have enough 2s for the marquee so they turned a 5 upside down and backwards!

it was under a dollar and I remember my dad got these huge barrels and filled them up with gas and stored them in our garage without my mom knowing for a long time.

then he started spilling the beans when he would talk to the neighbors, lol then of course my mom found out and FLIPPED out.

He said he was NOT gonna pay over a dollar for gas, haha
