Has your life been filled with "excellent choices" ... or mostly poor ones?

The choices we make in our lives are always something we should seriously consider, and bring before God, seeking His will and help in making them ... but how often do we take the time to do so? My heart and spirit were encouraged to remember to be sure to do so, as I read this devotion with the Holy Spirit from yesterday's Our Daily Bread Online.

Dreams Or Choices?

Read: Philippians 1:1-11
Approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense. Philippians 1:10
Ive received a lot of good advice in my life. Near the top of the list is this wise observation from a friend: Life is not made by the dreams that you dream but by the choices that you make.
Hes rightyour life today is the sum total of all the choices youve made up to this point. The apostle Paul gave similar advice in Philippians 1:10, when he said to approve the things that are excellent (1:10). In any given situation, we have a whole continuum of choicesranging from really rotten choices, to the mediocrity of average choices, to choices that are good, and then to those that are excellent. God wants to move us across the continuum, past our natural impulses, all the way to excellent choices.
Often its challenging to make the most excellent choice, especially if there arent many others joining us. Sometimes it may feel as if our desires and freedoms have been suppressed. But if you follow Pauls advice, youll notice some really positive outcomeslike being pure and blameless and fruitful (v.11).
Make the choice to live a life filled with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Gal. 5:22-23). Then revel in the result!
The little choices we must make
Will chart the course of life we take;
We either choose the path of light,
Or wander off in darkest night. D. De Haan
Make an excellent choice and watch the ripple effect of blessing.

My life hasn't been filled with MOSTLY poor choices , but I've certainly made my fair share and accepted the consequences. My most excellent choice was accepting Christ as my Saviour. It's been uphill ever since! Good post, Steve. Thanks for sharing!

You're welcome, chevy and jjarr!!!
My choices in life too have been a mixed bag of poor, mediocre, good and excellent ones, to be sure ... and, of course, like you guys, the MOST EXCELLENT CHOICE I have ever made in my life has been choosing to receive Jesus into my heart, spirit and life as Lord and Savior, and moving on from there to working out with the Holy Spirit the sancification process we are all going through after our repentance, forgivenes of our sin debt, and salvation, as we grow more and more Christlike while we are growing closer to God, getting to know and love Him intimately as He knows and loves intimately and blesses us unconditionally in His agape loving way!!! Yay, Lord!!! Barefoot Hoorary!!! for this MOST IMPORTANT EXCELLENT CHOICE in our lives!!! :yay::yay::yay::applause::applause::applause::hearts::hearts::hearts:

mostly poor ones, I ain't gonna lie! (my two marriages)
one to a very judgemental "sudoChristian" ,a pretender. One to a unChristian, that I loved with all my heart. Unfortunatly, the UnChirstian, was into strange and new-age type religions, which did not help his already fragile mental state. "Vietnam, PTSD" He had a compleat mental breakdown.
Praise God, that in His mercy, I got two GREAT kids; one from each marriage. My son gave me the gift of the most wonderful grandson, and my daughter is an every day delight!!
Even when we make the stupid mistakes, (I knew my 1st hubby less than 2 wks when we wed, my second, EVERYONE warned me was "not quite right" God loves us enough to work it out!!PRAISE HIM FOR HIS MERCY!!!!:yay:
