to guys from a guy - how do you handle The Question .. "Does This Make Me Look Fat" ...?

Watching the Geico commercial with Abe Lincoln being asked that question by his wife is a scream, but it highlights one of the most trying moments in a relationship that a man can be asked by a woman .. and one of the most telling, I think ..

I have my own experiences in marriage I can discuss, but have you ever been zinged by a girl dating you on this? I surely hope not, but one thing is certain, the marital/dating status makes a big difference.

Want some O's, guys.

And gals, can you explain why you might put a man on the spot with something like this?

I have been asked this question. I replied, "mmm, mm!" then bit her on the butt. That was the end of that conversation!

Just answer the question with a question========== Do these blue jeans make me look skinny?

She'll just smile.----:glow:

This is a question I've never asked a guy...

I've asked my mom many times... and maybe one day I will be in a close enough relationship with a guy that I will feel comfortable enough to hear his honest opinion on how well fitted an article of clothing is on me.

that said however, I doubt I would phrase it as "do these pants make me look fat" but rather " do you think these pants fit me well or should I try another style?

also, because clothing even though the same size fits differently depending on how it's styled and cut... I would want to be told the truth if something I was considering wearing didn't fit well or look right on me. Guys being more visually oriented would be more keen to notice ill fitting clothing.

That's also meant as a compliment to you men out there.

Also, if you were to ever get the question "does this make me look fat" you could always reply "while the clothing doesn't do your beauty justice... you look good to me"

I'm not a guy but will answer the question anyway.

I would very much prefer an honest "That's not the most flattering dress/pants/style on you". If I ask the question, I want an answer.

Girls, please stop the inane Fishing for a Compliment. You give the rest of us a bad name - those of us who want honest answers to that question, who don't play games, and who value open and honest, truthful communication.

Are you those are the right size?:ROFL:

Obviously I have never been asked that question.

Guys, the appropriate answer is: "Of course not! You look beautiful!" There. Now you know. (And if you can't honestly say "Of course not!" just leave that part off and go with "You look beautiful!") :glow:

I wouldn't typically ask that question of a guy. If I genuinely want to know if I should try another style, I would ask that, but probably only of a husband...for now, I have girl friends, a mom, and 2 sisters who will tell me the truth about certain styles! Probably a better wording would be, as someone else already suggested, something along the lines of "Is this a flattering fit, or should I try something else?"

I would be honest. If something is ill-fitting, it wouldn't be beneficial to lie.

"Of course not. It's your fat that makes you look fat."

Lol, Tulip, for some reason I can actually see you saying that.

And guys, honestly, many women really do want the honest truth.
