What does religion do for the masses?
Posted : 9 Jan, 2011 07:35 AM

I'm currently trying to write a new religion (mainly for fun) and I know that there are certain problems that religions solve. I am a christian (fyi) I'm just a little stumped on this one...

Religion satisfies the spiritual hunger in the masses so they will not be compelled by their hunger to seek out a personal relationship with Jesus. Religion is a Satanic tool to keep the masses spiritually content on their trip to hell, least they leave their seats and look for another ride.

Religion according to Jesus : The blind leading the blind in the traditions of men to the pit. (paraphrased summary)

YES! what he said! (Twos)

for fun? are you kidding?

wonder if that is what Joseph Smith did for fun one day when he was lusting after women and wanted to know how to get others to join him in polygamy~

If it isn't godly, it is evil.

nope, not kidding. actually most people already follow this religion they either don't realize it or don't care. if you were to read this text you would see it as sacrilege but you wouldn't be able to refute it's validity. a more accurate picture of what I'm looking for is that religion, in general, provides answers to:

gender roles

priestly roles

sin and redemption

government and politics

I just want to make sure that I don't miss anything. does anyone have anything else to add?

The Bible provides answers to all those things.

You might want to consider what God has to say about adding to His word in Rev. 22:18 and 19

Religion is a word that has taken much heat in the last decade or so, and for no good reason. Religion is not the problem, it is a word. It is what we make it. The meaning has been twisted into something evil, but James tells us it can be holy and pure.

People like to compare religion with relationship, but they can and should be one in the same.

As for the OP, starting a new religion is called forming a cult. It is a very dangerous road to go down. Even if you are doing it for fun, you are opening doors not meant to be opened. Please reconsider.

Marx called religion the opiate of the masses. It can be in that it can have a calming effect, but that is not what history has shown us. Over the centuries, many atrocities have happened in the name of various religions, including Christianity. Do you really want to take a chance on adding to that?

Please let me restate. I'm not really starting a new religion, I'm pointing out the religion that the world (with the exception of a precious, precious few) follows.... they just don't realize it. It would be like me trying to write the religious text for Global Warming. The entire text would be a joke from the title to the last words; but it will be accurate to the point where people who read it will say that I'm right and that it's rediculous.

I'm not writing Scientology which was a religion written by a science fiction auther based on a bet. I'm pointing out the way the world already works and writing a rediculous religious text for it.

I think there's nothing to reconsider because the likelyhood of people following every jot and tittle because they read my is slim to none.
