I heard a line in a movie that made me smile and think about how God manages our lives. :

"Life has a way of making the forseeable future that which never happens, and making the unforeseeable future that which your life becomes,"

Has anybody else had first hand experience with this truth?

Yep. That has certainly happened to me.

I totally planned to graduate from UGA with my MM in piano pedagogy and start building up my private studio. I had it all worked out, down to the exact number of students I thought I could handle and how I was going to recruit those students. But God had very different plans. About a month or so before I was to graduate, I got a phone call from my undergrad piano teacher. She told me that there was an opening in the music department for a full-time faculty member. It wasn't what I thought I'd be doing, but I love it and can see that God knew best when he canceled my own plans for the future.

The funny/crazy thing is, someone sort of "predicted" during my junior year at that school that I'd be back some day. I was helping a friend of mine with a song he was learning. He asked how many other students I was helping in addition to him, and I told him (it was several). Then he said something like, "I bet you'll make yourself so useful around here that someday they'll ask you to come back and help out again." I didn't think much about it until I got the phone call and was asked to "come back and help us teach."

The timing was also completely worked out by God. I didn't want to go on and get my masters degree as soon as I finished my BA...I wanted to wait a year. My mom really encouraged me to do so, though, so I did. I nearly quit more than once out of frustration with a particular teacher. But something made me keep going. Looking back now, I realize that if I hadn't gone to grad school when I did, or if I'd quit, I wouldn't have been qualified for the job God was preparing for me (or preparing ME for!). God also made it possible for me to get some of the experience I needed in the form of a graduate teaching assistantship that I didn't even apply for.

So yeah, the foreseeable future didn't happen, and the unforeseeable future has become my future through God's working and guidance. Now if He'd just bring along that unforeseen husband... :goofball:

Very much so, repeatedly. Life is full of interesting surprises.

I've had it happen more than once, but if I were to go into all the details my post would be as long as some of those in the biblical section---- so I'll second what river said and answer Yes and I'm grateful.

When it comes to planning my life, I just am not very bright. I think and plan for one thing, God laughs and basically says,

you have GOT to be kidding. That is so not what I planned. Your job is over here. Now stop being silly and get busy on what I need done.

You're right, Elisa. My friend once told me the same thing.

We may be making Big plans at the same time God is and saying NO WAY! :glow:
