Do you find it hard to wait upon on the Lord in our "Go, go, go! Do it now!!!" world?

Today's follow-up devotion to yesterday's devotion from Charles Stanley's In Touch devotional magazine reminds our hearts and spirits that it is well worth our patience in waiting upon the Lord for his direction and timing in doing the things He calls us to do.

A Necessary but Challenging Lesson

Read | Psalm 27:14

There are many lessons for us to learn in Gods School of Obedience. With space for just two, I have chosen principles that arent easy. Yesterday, we learned that Christians must trust the Lord. Today, lets tackle patience: Believers must learn to wait upon Him.

Have you ever wondered why the psalmist coupled the admonition to wait upon God with encouragement to be strong and courageous? The reason is that sometimes delaying is the hardest thing to do.

Modern culture is in such a hurry. Gotta have it now! Gotta do it now! Cant wait! Weve been primed to stay in a permanent state of readiness. It takes courage to be still when the world is rushing past. Everything in us hollers, Go! while God whispers, Wait. But people are quick to act, because they are afraid of missing out on something. Believers who buy into that attitude make a move and then hope God will bless them.

God leaves nothing to chance. He does not place a decision before us with the hope that well make the right choice. That would be irresponsible and out of character. The Father is more than willing to show His children what to do, because He is personally interested in their welfare. But until the Lord makes clear what is the way forward, weve got to pause and wait.

Waiting upon God is not passive. It is not lazy. It is not an excuse to be careless. In fact, the opposite is true. Those who pause are seeking His willwhich means that they are praying, searching Scripture, perhaps even fasting. And they are still serving the Lord wherever they can.

A friend and I were discussing this yesterday. At the moment, it feels like we are in the waiting room. There is an assignment to be completed, however even finishing that is no guarantee of permission to leave the waiting room. It is frustrating at times. I just want to know what is next. There is no rush to get there, but rather an impatience concerning what comes next. Yet, here I sit waiting. It will be worth it though in the long run. What better way to spend time than as God deems. It isn't always comfortable, but if it is to his glory, then so be it.

They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength;they shall mount up with wings as eagles;they shall run,and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 41:31

This is what has troubled me lately. I've been in that go state always getting depressed that I haven't done this and that but what I should really be doing is giving it all to God. I've been asking him to do so many things in my life but I haven't truely tried to wait on his plan for my life. I've been asking instead of seeking his will. I'm trying so hard to wait and give all the control to him. It's so scary giving up control though. Everything has its perfect timing though I suppose. Things might not happen today, tomorrow, next week, next year, maybe not even a decade from now but they happen when God intends for them to happen.

I guess in a sense waiting is like spiritual rest. LOL. Cast your burdens and cares up to the Lord.

I have to say that sometimes I do feel rushed to get married. Everyone at work is starting wonder about me, LOL

so many potential partners (in their eyes) that I come across pretty frequently but they dont understand what I'm looking for. Good looks and money just wont cut it.

but I wait patiently(sometimes not so patiently) upon Him who is perfect in all things and let Him bring Him to me or me to him. If that doesnt happen then I'm ok with that too.

I wouldnt want to intentionally hinder the work He's doing in my life, He may want me single, I dunno. It's not my hearts desire but I choose Him over me.

Modern culture is in a big hurry. Day planners and other systems seek to cram more work into one day. The problem is our brain was not designed to maintain those "fight or flight" adrenaline pumping and stress producing hormones on a continual basis. The "fight or flight" mode is meant for emergency not for everyday life. Modern brain scans show we burn out too easy because of this.

But waiting on the Lord in a meditative insightful state can produce the alpha brain waves needed to balance our stressed out lives. Especially upon raising or before bed. Science is verifying the bible principle a "merry heart does good like a medicine."

That is why the work of the Lord brings rest and is easy. The work of man brings bondage and borders on the inhuman.
