Am I the only one who gets sad when they watch Christmas movies?Posted : 7 Dec, 2010 10:35 PMAs Christmas draws nearer, it seems everybody wants to watch Christmas movies or Christmas specials. Supposedly they're all cheery and make everybody feel warm and fuzzy inside, but really they just make me sad. |

Am I the only one who gets sad when they watch Christmas movies?Posted : 7 Dec, 2010 10:45 PMNooo... I feel the same way, Tulip. Part of the reason I have so much angst around the holidays is because I'm not experiencing all of the things that "everyone" else it. I don't have husband to go to Christmas parties with or the children to watch open gifts. I feel like I miss out on a lot of things. BUT, those aren't the important things. In recent years, I've really come to realize that and, in a way, appreciate my single status and use it as a time to reflect on what this season really is. I'm at the point where I barely even celebrate Christmas actually, in that there just isn't hardly anything that I do. I barely decorate and I don't do much (if any) extra baking. Last year, I didn't even send out cards. I used to go see "The Nutcracker" every single year, but I haven't even done that it forever. I love ballet, but it just seems meaningless. It gets harder and harder to get excited about stuff like that. But I guess that's a good thing, eh? |

Am I the only one who gets sad when they watch Christmas movies?Posted : 8 Dec, 2010 03:22 AMArch, for those of us who are still single, with no children, and away from our families, this time of year if very sad, because as Pixy stated, we are left out of a lot of things. Single people don't get invited to a lot of the parties or events that go on. My own family didn't even invite me over for thanksgiving, and have spent several Christmases alone because people just don't know how to fit me in. |

Am I the only one who gets sad when they watch Christmas movies?Posted : 8 Dec, 2010 06:00 AMArch, why be concerned with Scrooges acting mildly more Christianish just because it's Christmas? A chocolate covered t u r d is still a t u r d, no matter how hard it tries to pass itself off as a truffle. |

Am I the only one who gets sad when they watch Christmas movies?Posted : 8 Dec, 2010 06:09 AMWell, I still say the issue isn't really Christmas. People need to know that God loves them and Jesus gave His life for their sins all year round. |

Am I the only one who gets sad when they watch Christmas movies?Posted : 8 Dec, 2010 07:44 AMI understand what you are saying Tulip, and I agree that Christmas is about so much more than just Santa and happy feelings and presents. Christmas is still my favorite holiday, though, and I try to make sure that I remember the real reason for Christmas while enjoying the commercialized version. |
