Is it normal these days?
Posted : 8 Nov, 2010 11:03 AM

There was this guy, that has been hitting on me since the beginning of this year and we went on a few dates, I decided that we'd better be just friends. Just last month he told me that he was already in a relationship since last year, I really hate cheating (I was being fooled for sure) so I scolded him, and he just simply answered "I am looking for the best lady to be my partner. I choose you." :toomuch:

Then my friend came and told me there was a guy that has been hitting her, turned out he was on a several dates with other women as well and my friend found out. When she asked him why he would do such thing and whether he was being serious with her, he answered "Of all women I've been close to, I feel most comfortable with you." My friend told his dad and his dad tole her that the guy was not wrong in doing such thing and it was normal for guys to do such thing.

Now, I'm kinda confused. Is it me and my friend who are just randomly meet the wrong guy, or is it normal these days for men to act such way on their way to "look for the best lady to be my partner"? To date women as much as they can and then just pick the best one?

Note, all characters mentioned above are all Christians  and I believe that true men of God wouldn't do such thing but is it like men characters in general or what?

This is DEFINITELY NOT "normal", JesusLovesYouAnd Me!!! ... and I seriously question this guy's supposed claim to being a Christian ... if he WAS a Christian, he would need to repent of deceiving you into believing you were the only gal he was dating and having a serious relationship with for the whole year ... I don't see how he wouldn't have been convicted in his heart and spirit by the Holy Spirit about what he was doing and feel no guilt and remorse and the need to repent and confess to each of the women involved and make a choice to choose one or the other of you, IF either one of you STILL would want him after finding out about his worldly deception.

His behavior may be classified as "normal" for a worldy man nowadays, but if he's truly a Christian, a man of God, he knows that he's not called to "conform to the world" but that he is "no longer of the world" as a "new creation in Christ" called now to love others as Christ does, including EVERY woman his heart feels love toward.

What qualifies him as a man you are SURE is a Christian, JesusLovesYouAndMe? How does he otherwise show to you and others that he IS a man of God and God comes FIRST in his life, not his own desires, but God's heart, desires, will and plan for his life? Of these, you can be SURE that deceiving women about their exclusive relationship with him is NOT one of them!!!

Words mean things.....

If Words like ; committed, exclusive, courtship, going steady, serious promised are used to define your realtionship then neither party should be seeing anyone else. There is another Word for that ; Cheating!

Nope, if it is normal then it shouldn't be. That isn't a very healthy way to be in a relationship. If it's just friendly "checking each other out", then it's probably ok to go on non-serious dates with other people concurrently...but if you're in a "relationship", then it's not ok, and the point at which a relationship should start is touchy. I would only date one at a time, just to be safe.

I'm with Mark on this one. There's nothing wrong with dating around casually, as long as you're honest with each other. When things progress to "relationship" level, you need to commit to one person.

Thanks for the responses, guys! =)

@Barefootguy: like I mentioned before, I believe if he was such a real man of God, he wouldn't do such thing :waving:

It is totally ok for a guy to "date around". Casually dating is not sinful. It is only wrong when you commit to someone and then you break your word by dating another, or if you purposefully lead a woman on.

It should also be pointed out that there's nothing wrong with women doing the same thing.

Well in real life I never date more than one guy at a time, so I'm not equipped with that experience. But I was once watched Sex and the city serial on the tv and there was a scene where Charlotte (one of the main characters), was dating one guy from 6-8 pm, then the other different guy from 8.30-10 pm. And someway somehow (I forget the details), those two men she was dating before met each other and those men kinda looked down to Charlotte and showed disappointed faces toward her. By that means, I kinda wonder whether it could be applied to women as well..
