To shave or not to shave...that is the question!
Posted : 22 Sep, 2010 05:12 AM

Earlier this year, during a major awards ceremony, Mo'nique from the movie 'Precious', raised her dress to show an interviewer her shoes. She had unshaven legs. This was a hot topic on the radio and watercoolers for quite awhile.

Now that the hoopla has died down, I would like to know if you men have a preference either way? I have a fine, blonde thinly layered (thank God) moustache that I get waxed off when I get my nails done. (The stuff I share for the sake of the forum. Dang! (-:) How hairless does a woman have to be? (minus the unmentionable, of course)

I asked this question on my forum group on Facebook, and was really surprised by the women's answers and was interested in the statistics for this particular group that posts here on this forum.

A good question ... of course, I love the look of a woman's feet more than her legs and there's rarely a lot of hair to be concerned about there!!! (ha ha) But I do love women's legs too as well as all of their body parts.

When it comes to shaving or not shaving your legs for me, I'm fine with whatever the woman is comfortable with and prefers to do. A little soft layer of hair on a gal's legs can even be sexy and nice to caress, just like some gals love to caress the hair on their guy's body. My ex-fiancee has said she loves the hair on my arms!!! I don't have a lot of natural chest hair like some guys or any on my back, but in two other areas of my body I'm happy our Creator gave me some pretty barefoot sexy hair to delight my gal's heart etc, my arms being one of those areas!!!

Well I prefer if she wasn't growing more facial hair than me, So if she was, she could keep that contained, but things like legs, armpits, and whatever else I don't care about. Makes me wonder what time in history and what caused women to start doing that anyways.

Well, I really like the feel of a woman's soft skin, so I prefer shaving. I also dated a girl with lip hair, and that was kind of weird. There's definitely something very feminine about not being hairy.

why is not shaving considered 'ew' to you? Seems more like cultural thing than logistical reason.

Lol..., River! I've met a lot women who feel that exact same way.

Loo, I grew up thinking it was a cultural thing thing.

Seriously, I never knew one woman in my family or high school friend who EVER shaved their legs. I was in culture shock for alot of reasons when I went to college but the different grooming habits of black and white women was a big one.

I never knew white women (most) washed their hair every day and I realized that all of them that I knew shaved their legs. I shaved for the first time after that just to see what all the hype was about. I did like the way my legs were smooth to the touch, but my nerves were hit with the maintanence of it.

I appreciate the responses so far. My findings on Facebook? Most men didn't care and say whatever the woman wants to do. Woman had more of a problem with their own hair than anything else.

Its definitely a cultural thing. In Europe generally only the prostitutes shave both their armpits and their legs, so that average woman will only shave one or the other. Usually they will leave it up to the guy to pick which one he wants.

As for me, I agree with Tulip, I like the soft smooth skin of a woman, so I would say shave.

My best advice, if you are trying to attract a man, shave. Once you got him, then you can find out what you can get away with uhm, I mean, what he appreciates, and what he doesnt mind.

babygirl1,

i have heard that black hair is very delicate, and that is why you wash it every other rather than once a day. Funny how you still learn. The black children i cared for in child-care Loved to touch my hair because it was different then theirs.

Hey Debby,

Delicate is not the word. We just treat it roughly when we perm it (chemically straighten) and color it. It's easily damaged and it takes salon grade products to get it back right. If it gets too damaged no amount of product will help and it has to be cut off. I've been going natural (no chemicals) for 7 months. I flat iron it to go straight or wash it, braid it, let it dry, tease it with my fingers and wear it curly.

i just dont think hair is attractive (for me anyway) I feel that my hygiene would be bad if I didnt. but yea your right it's definitely a cultural thing. A girl here at work laughs at me cuz I shave my legs, she said her man likes her legs with hair.

To each his own I suppose. I grew up shaving so it's what I do.

When I said EW, that was for me. PLUS, my legs in the winter are white, can you imagine dark hair on white legs?

uh, NO...ew...
