This can go for either male or female. I often see "I'm not looking for anyone who is perfect" in the profiles I read. What does that really mean?

My experience (limited as it may be) has been that people that have been through some heartache with members of the opposite sex, whether spouse or bf/gf, have a low tolerance for things outside the 'perfect' radius.

I guess the question is how imperfect can a person be to still be acceptable?

Well, I know how to cook, so she doesn't have to know how to do that. I can do laundry, so she doesn't have to know how to do that. I can drive a stick, so she doesn't have to know how to do that. Other than those, perfection in all other areas would be appreciated.

Tulip, with your sense of humor, I can't tell if u are playin' or not.

What areas does your lady have to be perfect in? (I promise not to get into heated debate. Dang! (-:) Just curious.

For me, integrity (no one shady who cuts corners), I deem that type of thing dishonest. He needs to be practicing walking by faith.

No one younger than me. I've been of accused of discriminating, but it's my choice. Finding men who have maturity who aren't rocking in chairs whittlin' sticks is hard enough than to be dealing with someone childish.

Someone who actually has love & compassion for people in general, but especially God's people. I've dealt with a couple of men who had great distain for folks. Not cool.

I have one physical characteristic that I'm not particularly proud of, but it is how I currently feel. I prefer a men who are football player big. I come from a rough background where fighting was regular. I don't feel safe with little guys. I can't feel like I can beat you down if I wanted to. Not a complete deal breaker, but it would give me pause.

Well, actually getting serious, I think my number one thing I'm looking for is a woman who isn't a project. I've dated some fix-em-uppers before, and it just wasn't healthy or enjoyable. I want a woman who is actively seeking a closer relationship with Christ. She doesn't have to have read Institutes of the Christian Religion, but the hunger for more of Christ goes a long way. I'm looking for a woman who has her confidence firmly fixed in Christ and doesn't need me to constantly be propping up her self esteem. I know neither of us will be perfect in this area, but the more complete the two are in Christ, the healthier their marriage will be.

I'll also be up front and say that I'm looking for a woman I'm attracted to on all levels. She doesn't necessarily have to be a 20 year old Salma Hayek, but I want to find her physically attractive, just as I would want my wife to find me physically attractive. Looks fade though, so there also has to be a personality as well. Certain personalities work better together than others. There are great women of God out there who I just don't have any sort of spark with. Not every woman is for me, just like I'm not for every woman.

Really though, everything comes down to what God has in store for me. She might not be what I'm thinking of, but she'll be better than what I was thinking of. Hopefully she likes motorcycles though.

*crosses fingers for a motorcycle-accepting wife*

I'm not a biker babe, but Lord please send one to Tulip. :prayingm:

How much imperfection? Good question. It would be a matter of degrees for me. For instance, previous marriages and/or children would not bother me. Too many marriages, or too many children (or especially children who are wild) would. Bad language. Personal hygiene (as in: lack of) Lack of contact with his family. Lack of friends. Those are some biggies anyway.

I guess I'd fall on the "perfect circle" side of things, simply because I know now what I don't want. That's the lesson of heartache -- to put up giant neon reminders that say, "No matter how good it looks, don't go THERE." I've learned not to get mixed up with people far outside my faith and theology. I've learned not to put up with emotional abuse. I've learned that long-distance stuff stands a real low chance of working. And on the scars and lessons go.

But I'm not looking for perfection. I'm looking for a particular set of characteristics.

Well it probably means different things to different people, but to me it means I know better than to let my infatuation get the best of me when starting a relationship as much as it used to at first and that fantasy women don't exist in reality. Just fantasy.

In not so many words: They've been jaded.

Life has gotten busy, so I'm not on here as often, but wanted to stop thru & say thanks to Lamb, Silver & Brandon for your responses.

Pray for me! I've got a blind date Saturday & i'm completely nerve-racked! He's 55, a minister, widower and I'm going on a double date with the couple (Pastor friends of mine) who knows us both & who set it up.

Yikes! I'll tell yall how it goes.
