I'm curious what you would estimate your response rate to be. I thought 1/4 or 1/5 was fairly average, but I've heard everything from 1/10 to 1/50 lately. Have you seen a pattern at all for what gets a response and what doesn't?

Personally, I tried thoughtful, normal messages at first, but quickly I realized I would have to do something to stand out, so I started sending pretty ridiculous messages. I'll point out some things we have in common, but I really focus more on making her laugh than anything else. Maybe it's not the way things "ought to be," but it caused my response rate to skyrocket. I also make sure I'm not messaging a dead account. When there's a person actually checking the account, I tend to get a lot more responses.

You menfolk could always use my follow-up line on ladies who don't respond to your messages: "I saw that you read my message, but there's no reply yet =( Did I say something wrong? Or, did I just get lost in your pile of admirers =)"

My followups tend to be a little less straight forward. Like asking if she's been kidnapped by her cats, and telling her that I warned her not to trust them.

Yup, for me it's about 1/50. A good 50% of the time, the accounts are dead, or they don't even bother reading the message. The other 45% of the time, they read, but don't reply.

The remaining 5% of the messages get a response, but it quickly fizzles out. These it's usually painful to keep it going because the woman isn't all that interested, so I usually just let it drop after a few emails. No sense in prolonging the agony.

I'm doing everything right as far as I can tell, but I guess unless you've got movie-star looks, you get nothing; and if you have those, what you say doesn't matter because they'll hang on your every word.

It's pretty lame all the way around, but I guess it's just a joke and women think it's hilarious or something.

I usually only write people online or new users, so response rate is usually pretty high, and my messages aren't the usual boring 'hi' type. But if I make first contact, those usually fizzle out. I get best communication with women that contact me first.

One definition of insanity is to keep doing things the same way expecting a different response.

If you want different results, try something different. It sounds like you do not like what you are getting (or not getting). So what changes could be made to possibly elicit the responses you wish?

Assuming you're talking to me, Elise, I've thrown in the towel.

JFor me... BC = Before Charlie ... I would tend to respond to a sincere message.

If it came across as arrogant, impersonal, kiss up, obvious lines, or a one or two

word message I'd just delete those.

The ones that came across as themselves I responded to. So, if being your true

self is humorous it will come across that way. However, if you have to force a

certain style or say something just to get a response, that will come across as well

which will more than likely cause me to delete the message as its an indicator

of how you will think of and/or treat me.

The key is to be your true self. :)
