Alright, dudes...

Now...I am a guy...but I'm having a crisis of gender. There are moments in my life that I wish I could disassociate myself with my fellow dudes. Not talking about sexual stuff...just mental. Doesn't seem like there are many men worthy of the defining term..."Men". I know I am not a good example of the Man-like qualities by far, but there are some of us out there that are almost complete animals with a human face. It's like they are incapable of moving past the basest animal instincts. It's their life. So this isn't really a question so much as a complaint. I'm sure it's been a long process, and we've seen a massive increase in the last 50 or so years because there haven't been a lot of committed father-figures out there...but...when did this start, and how do we fix it?

What makes me sad is that women are getting in on the ego-fest, which makes me think that it's not the gender, it's the position. You put a woman in a position of potential power/control and it will most likely corrupt them as well. If it had been Adam that had sinned, and if Eve had been put in the leadership role...I think this world would be just about the same.

I think we need to have a crusade against the human ego. As Christians we should always be putting ourselves last, becoming servants, treating others the way we want to be treated, sacrificing ourselves, leading by example. Especially in marriage. The man's position as "leader" is not one meant for control and power. In the military the best leaders are the ones that put themselves on the line to save their men, they charge first, they don't send someone else. Real leaders lead by example, not by issuing commands. I think Jesus was trying to show us that.

And I'm sorry if it's not as bad as I'm making it sound...but there are many glaring examples out there of what I'm talking about...and while women aren't excluded from the ego-war by any means...lets face it...guys are worse, so it goes in the "ask a guy" section:goofball:...

I think alot of it has to do with the time we live in being the information age, and the developement of new technology to feed us more and more information, alot of which is bad information based on their definition of cool, which is really just "the next thing" to stimulate our illusions of grandure so you will buy into it and make them rich. With our sense of right and wrong becoming more and more influenced by mass media it drowns out what our parents and the church may or may not have taught us about what right living is and what's normal and sensable- leaving many people unhappy, uncomfortable, and confused. Hence why we do what we do.

But yeah I think there's a positive correlation between technology's developement and our fractured morals and values.

I don't know if that's true or not...can't really blame morality on technology. This is just a guess, but if you look at a lot of survey stuff, all this serious moral decay started when there was a alternate theory introduced that said "God does not exist" and that "religion was nice on the weekends, but can be blamed for all the wars and evil existing in the world"...which I supposed could be blamed on mankind's scientific ego, but I don't think we can blame it on TV too much. Moral decay existed before most technology. But anyway, I was kinda asking about the "ego" specifically...and especially with Christians.

Don't,

"With Absolute Power comes Absolute Corruption"

Men because of their physical nature or stature are the dominant sex. We tend to be stronger and more ruthless. Traits that are not exclusive to women. This serves us well in Protecting and Defending those that need it. The danger is in those of us who do not have the Censure of The Holy Spirit to control us.

General George Patton was in my opinion one of the greatest Military Leaders of All Time. He would give the example of trying to push a spaghetti noodle across a table top...it was almost impossible to do. Yet, if you "pulled" it across...it would follow. I took that to heart and would never ask any of my men to do something I would or could not do and wherever possible...I led them and I stood right there wth them.

God gave us Strong arms to chop and build and protect and God also gave us The Holy Spirit so that those same arms could hold the ones we Love...Tenderly...Softly...Lovingly.

Teach your Sons and they will teach their Sons, Show your Sons and they will show their Sons. It all starts with You...Now!

Hey DHTM,

I'd highly, highly recommend a book by John Eldredge called "Wild at heart." It may seem at first like this doesn't address what you're getting at, but I think it does in a roundabout way. The partner book for the ladies (written by John and his wife, Stasi) is called "Captivating: unveiling the mystery of a woman's soul."

Basically the purpose of the books is to explain the differences between men and women relating to how they were created and why they were created the way they were. I'm sorry - I can't do these books justice! They are both phenomenal and I think would help men in their walk to be a true man. We're in a messed up, broken world where men don't even know what a man is, and women don't even know what a woman is - or what either is supposed to do, nor why. These books get into that, and I think they do an excellent job of it. They also explain, at least in part, some of the consequences of the fall.

Anyway, just thought of this when I read your post.

God bless,

Ian

Well...the bible does tell us though. Not many people read it anymore...which is probably why everything is so krappy and getting krappier...

Cattleman! Yup, good to see ya too. Been here lots, just not on the forums much.

DHTM: Agreed. The Bible does say what our roles are. It was more the reasons for us behaving the way we do that I felt they elaborated on quite nicely.
