Guys, how does the Bible define love? How does the Bible define worldly love?

Much is said about “love” these days but most people have adopted their own unrefined notion of what love is or is not but sometimes these people go “religious” by loosely quoting select portions of scripture that seem only to justify 👉their own unrefined notions👈.

The end result, however, reveals merely a deeply entrenched popular notion of what the world calls “love”. It is anything but biblical love‼️‼️‼️

Isn’t there just ONE person who knows enough scripture on a Christian site to quote from the Bible? The Bible actually defines love as if it’s important to know how God defined love. AND the Bible defines worldly love as if it’s a bad thing to avoid

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

I'm not sure as humans we are capable of demonstrating love to such a degree as I posted above but we should at least be able to come close to it.

I have never seen anyone in my lifetime come close to showing that kind of love or even as close to the love that I have given to others despite even myself not coming all that close to the description above.

What I have seen is people will always do what benefits themselves the most so anything that they perceive as giving to much or causing to much discomfort will be curtailed. That's not to say that truly loving and giving people don't exist. It's just that I haven't met any.

I have always been a very kind and giving person person and the most common reaction to that from people was to take advantage of my kindness without ever giving back when they had the capability to do so. I never expected or asked that they do, but it would have been nice to see at least one person do it. Typically what happened was there was an expectation from them to be given more even when there wasn't a need.

There is loving the right things and there is loving the wrong things.

The Bible says we are to love God with all our heart, and if we love God, we will obey his teachings. If we do not love God, we will not obey his teachings. We are also to love our neighbors as ourselves and to love our enemies. The idea is that love fulfills the Law. Husbands are to love their wives and wives are to love and obey their husbands.

The Bible speaks of those who love dishonest gain and those that love the world as being enemies of God. We are not to love the world or the things of the world. We are to put God first. He does not like being second. Anyone who loves son or daughter more than he loves God is not deserving of God. Many love the world more than they love God. Some are lovers of self. God knows his own.
