Why is it important to have Faith and not be Fearful?

The focus of my studies is on principles of Faith, some Christians seem to have more fear than faith. So if there are any spirit filled men or women of faith reading this - please add your comments on the importance of faith for readers who may be needing some help in this area.

FAITH VS. FEAR

FEAR

Revelation 21:8 (KJV)

8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

The FIRST thing mentioned is the fearful

Mark 4:40 (KJV)

40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?

Jesus words. Jesus shows in His statement that in this case the apostles had NO FAITH because they were FEARFUL.

Romans 14:23 (KJV)

23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

for WHATSOEVER is not of faith is sin.

Deuteronomy 20:8 (KJV)

8 And the officers shall speak further unto the people, and they shall say, What man is there that is fearful and fainthearted? let him go and return unto his house, lest his brethren's heart faint as well as his heart.

Here the fearful are sent away from those who are not fearful so that they would not contaminate the rest with their unbelief.

FAITH

Romans 1:17 (KJV)

17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Romans 3:28 (KJV)

28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

Hebrews 11:6 (KJV)

6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

James 1:6 (KJV)

6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

Luke 18:42 (KJV)

42 And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.

Jude 1:20 (KJV)

20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost

SCRIPTURES FOR BUILDING UP FAITH

FAITH

Mark 11:23 (KJV)

23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

Mark 11:24 (KJV)

24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

1 John 5:4-5 (KJV)

4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

Matthew 6:30 (KJV)

30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

Matthew 17:19-21 (KJV)

19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?

20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

Matthew 21:20-22 (KJV)

20 And when the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away!

21 Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.

22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

Mark 4:5 (KJV)

5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.

Mark 4:39-40 (KJV)

39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?

Acts 3:16 (KJV)

16 And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.

Romans 3:28 (KJV)

28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

Luke 12:32

32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)

7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Fear is the opposite of Faith. So if you are operating in fear you don't have faith - operate in faith and fear has to flea. Fear separates you from God - Faith is the bridge (so-to-speak) that gives God the access to move in your life.

I know there are times when I have to ask God for faith in a situation that may overwhelm me. So ask Him, and you will receive faith to get you through. Praise God for Faith!!!!

Amen sister. A great deal of the world's problems would go away if most women were like you.

But

Romans 8:11

But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

so I do not ask God for what (the faith) He has already given. I make a decision to believe God and put that Faith into action rather than believing the lies of the enemy who would tell me to be afraid.

"A great deal of the world's problems would go away if most women were like you."

MiraclesHappen - thank you for the compliment, but there are men that contribute to the world's problems too. It sounds like you have some unresolved issues with women :(

Amen to that Happy. Great summary. But considering all of the fears you see expressed on this site - in pofiles and forum posts there is still much that can be said about this subject and faith.

I hope we get some more responses from men and women who are trained in Faith principles.

 No not at all. Men are a lot more responsible than women for the world's problems, but women play a significant part. Although I do not like slogans or traditional sayings unless they are clearly backed up by scripture - one that I do believe in is "Behind every great man there is a great woman" even though I know some super mighty men of God who had horrible wives. But a faithless and negative wife - will usually pull a guy down.

I have had some bad experiences with women, but I spend no time thinking about those - except when something would remind me - and then those memories do little to put any kind of a damper on my faith.

I believe that God did not create fear. God allowed fear to come into the world after The Fall. To me fear is simply the Absence of Faith. If you have Faith there is no fear. A newborn child is born without fear but quickly learns by experience or by being taught just what to avoid or fear.

Knowkedge brings forth Faith. The more we seek and learn about God the more Faith we should have and the less fear.

Faith to me is simply surrendering to God and His Divine Will. That does not mean tempting Him by being reckless but rather knowing that I am Loved and Cherished.

We should always be cautious and vigilant, less we stumble -- so remember that even in the dark we have the Light of Christ to guide us, which we should hold up high and fearlessly to illuminate our path way in front of us (not pointing down fearfully at our feet to light just a small part of our way).

Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe.

Saint Augustine
