theDave View Profile History	my confession Posted : 30 Sep, 2009 11:19 AM In the past few weeks I have criticized a lot of people, both men and women, using nothing but philosophy and reasoning without giving a glimmer of myself for someone to in turn criticize. I view this as one-sided and even immoral and I offer my apologies. I do not, however, apologize for anything I have said. I have only answered as truthfully as my perspective can allow. I must commend those who have made themselves vulnerable to everyone in this community. Here is my confession. As Paul often struggled with the law as his great temptation, and even the thorn in his side, I struggle with nihilism. In the same fashion that Paul struggled with grace as a fundamental portion of the Christian experience I struggle with purpose as a fundamental portion of the human experience. This is not clinical depression as it is not self-centered. My heart mourns the cogs and sprockets of the political/industrial machine in which we all play a part with no choice. How can we even have a choice when the political/ruling class, who are supposed to be under our employ, do not even consider the will of the masses and instead forces us to give up our rights and sovereignty? Anyway, this is my struggle and in a way my hell. Please tell me where the meaning in life lies and please don't give me the uber-spiritual, cookie-cutter church answers (cop-outs). Post Reply
View Profile History	my confession Posted : 30 Sep, 2009 12:04 PM Admitting to It's the first step, right? lol I, myself enjoy reading your forum post / reaplys ...so get to writing! lol j/k I was a lil shocked to say the least at your reaply to one of my forum post..but I liked your honesty and strait forwardness you had some valid points and It was a big eye opener for me. so , thank you for your Input. I cannot however offer my Input on the difficulties / struggles that you are currently dealing with because I am a lil bit lost on it. Tabetha l Post Reply
DontHitThatMark View Profile History	my confession Posted : 30 Sep, 2009 01:24 PM You're absolutely right, this life is pointless. I'll try not to be uber-spiritual. But there is a reason God is going to destroy this world. I felt the same way, a little lost in my way...well, maybe a lot...even to the point of considering suicide as an escape. This life is WAY too painful for how pathetic it is. I can't even express how strongly I felt about that. But God convinced me there is something better coming, I just have to have patience. And I know some people have a minimalist view of heaven where you just float around. But God is going to recreate this world and us, and then there will be a whole universe to explore and learn about, possibly even allowed to be involved in the creation of new worlds and universes. So I figured, if I'm going to throw my life away I might as well throw it at God, see what He can do with it. And honestly? Not much has changed. I still have the same job. Still don't have much money. Still have a lonely pathetic life compared to what the world lives. But now I have hope and peace. Makes a HUGE difference. I know you didn't want spiritual, but I went through the same thing and there is really no other answer. It's pointless. So you have three options. 1. Live for yourself. 2. Just die. 3. Live for God. 2 of those choices are pointless. The first one might be fun for awhile, but you're going to die and every accomplishment you make will be forgotten or passed to someone else who hasn't earned it. Everything done under the sun is vanity and grasping for the wind. The second one is the neutral one. Just take an eternal dirt nap and get it over with. You'll probably get set on fire at some point too, but it skips all the pointlessness...and besides, you'll get set on fire for choice number one anyway. The third one is obvious, and while you might still suffer on this pointless earth, eternal life is cheap enough. Just depends on what you want. If you want to read something that explains this completely, read Ecclesiastes. The end gives you an answer. Ecc. 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. The wisest man is basically saying, "Yes, everything done under the sun is vanity and grasping for the wind. Don't worry about it. Just focus on what you know you need to do. Work hard, follow God, love your fellow man, and this life will pass away into something better." But I have to say, anybody that feels the way you do is a truly wise man in how he views the world. You just need to decide what reward you want. A short, "fun" life, followed death, fire, and eternal death. A quick death, followed by fire, and eternal death. Or a short, hard life, followed by unutterable eternal peace and purpose. It's up to you, dude. I hope you make the right choice. Sorry for being spiritual. :peace::peace: Post Reply
View Profile History	my confession Posted : 30 Sep, 2009 04:19 PM This isn't a cookie cutter church lesson or anything. it's the only way to make it. I know it may sound simplistic but really think about it when you're lying in bed or whenever. Step 1 don't worry. think about what you worry about and ask yourself why you worry about it. Step 2 trust God. Give your specific worries to Him and trust that he will watch out for you no matter what you encounter in the course of the day. If you can do these 2 things you will be a successful, confident, and happier person. cuz the external does not have as great an effect on you when your trust is truly in God, yourself, and others. That will enable you to have a better connection with the people around you and you will be able to gain the support and encouragement everybody needs otherwise you (and myself) end up thinking too much and no good comes from it. Nihilism doesn't coincide with any kind of morality. In my opinion (and again, my OPINION), I think you're in, to put it plainly, a slump. I think we all reach the point at one time or another, and many times throughout life, that we wonder what our purpose is - if there even is a purpose. We dredge through daily life, feeling like, as you put it, we are here simply to play a part in the political/industrial machine. I can empathize, because I've been there, too. We all have. But then something happens that lights that flame again. A new love, a new hobby, a child's laugh, learning something that interests us - it's all in finding what your passion is, and passions will and do change with age. You may be "between passions" right now and that's why you're feeling this way. The meaning of life after all, is what we're passionate about. Whether it be serving God or serving ourselves. I don't have a resolution for you - this is where the "church answer" comes in, because this is where faith comes in. You need to pray about it, and take a deep breath every day until you find it. Hope that helps and isn't too trite. But after all, the only thing that will matter in the end is our relationship to God and others. View Profile History	my confession Posted : 2 Oct, 2009 01:06 PM Okay TheDave here goes... The purpose of this life is simple...first choose...second grow...third serve. Choosing means praying about everything you think, do, say and decide. I spent a entire decade learning about the word "submit" from Father. The more you submit the more you develope and nurture your relationship with God. EVERYTHING comes from deep relationship with Jesus. Growing means you personally spiritually, mentally and emotionaly mature as a product of choosing and praying. Serving occurs when we grow enough that we have much to share with others as they seek the Kingdom. To answer your question Dave, since this creation is about choosing political leaders have a right to choose just like all of us do. We do not have to like their choices. When I asked God what I should do to contribute to the Kingdom He said this "it is enough for you to spend your time working/submitting yourself to Me, all the rest Is My work". This goes right along with what Solomen wrote in the very end of Ecclisiastics when he said (after describing all the ways one can waste their time) "just seek the Will of God and do it". My answer and advice is simple...forget worrying about politics and political leaders (that you can do nothing about anyway). Pray for them, release your concerns to Jesus, and submit YOURSELF to Jesus every moment of every day. THEN you will grow even more and become a living breathing testament to God that will Live by Example. Steven Post Reply
View Profile History	my confession Posted : 4 Oct, 2009 07:17 PM Dave,I too have gone through many anxious moments over the Political Temperature.I've fallowed it for a few decades now and it just appears to worsen and worsen with each new election.But a couple things that put me at ease imediatelly(pardon my spelling or lack there of)is that God IS in control.Rest in him brother.This world is not our home and it never will feel like it.Injustice grows.Ask God for the strength,peace and character to prevail personally through these storms.HE WILL provide!
