Be a gentleman, please

Hi folks. I have a question on etiquette (did i spell it right?) or a man being a gentleman.

If there are no other seats available (dr. office, bus, train, at a restaurant waiting to be called, at a public place), and you see lots of men sitting down and no one offers the lady his seat, is it wrong or rude for the lady to then ask the guy for his seat? or should we stand until a seat becomes available?

thank you in advance.

God Bless,

Zoe

First off, if I was one of those men you would not have to ask for a seat. There are still a lot of men out there with old fashioned values and we don't even think about it, it is an automatic response because of how we were raised. But I would not think it rude of you to ask were none of them to offer.

HI ZOE.

YES UVE SPELT THE WORD ETIQUETTE CORRECTLY. LOL.

FIRSTLY I DONT THINK ITS WRONG OR RUDE FOR ANY LADY TO ASK FOR A SEAT, HOWEVER IT IS NOT SOMETHING THAT I SEE OFTEN, UNLESS THE LADY IS ELDERLY.

IN ADDITON, I SUPPORT WHAT GRACEDFREEDME SAID, IN THAT, BASED ON MY UPBRINGING, I NATURALLY, ALMOST WITHOUT THINKING, WILL OFFER UP MY SEAT TO A LADY.

seems to me you guys are real gentlemen. thank you for being so. it is much appreciated. i'm doing my best to raise my son to be a gentleman. he's 12. i don't know if his father is teaching him, but as a mother and a lady, i need to teach my son the importance of being a gentleman in all aspects not just in offering seats.

so thanks again for being you!!!

God Bless,

Zoe

Do a good job and he'll receive compliments on your behalf the rest of his life ;-) I now live 3000 miles away from home, and people are continually complimenting my mother for the manners she taught me.

(Which I think is sad, because I'm not aware of doing anything laudable when it happens.)

Ok this had already been answered but here's my two cents worth. If a lady enters a room where MEN are seated she can ask for a seat. If she enters a room where GENTLEMEN are seated, not only will the door be opened for her but she will also have her pick of any chair in the room. Im from the country, we was raised to treat ladies with the respect they deserve.
