Hey, where are you older guys who are realistic in your expectations regarding the age of who may contact you? It seems to me kind of pathetic for a man in his late 50's or old to say you must be under 45 to contact me. Come on guys! Get real!

Lol, you have a point. The idea of a significantly younger woman has its physical attractions, but an age gap of a generation doesn't sound like much of a partnership.

I've set my criteria for 10 years younger to 5 years older than myself. Sometimes I look at a profile in which the woman is 10 years younger than me and think, "She looks barely out of high school! I couldn't date her!" On the other side of it, a woman with grandkids the age of my youngest child seems almost like a mismatch too. So I don't think I'm looking for anyone more than 5 years older than myself. Get to mid-40's and grandparenthood is becoming a likelihood. With 5 kids under 12 ... I'm not sure I'm ready to be a grandpa!

Thank you Hoosier,

You are being realistic. I have to say that having gone through terminal illnesses with two husbands I really would prefer a younger guy to lessen the chance of that happening again. That being said I am not looking for a boy toy and had originally set my lower limit at half the distance between my age and my son's age. Now, however, I have even changed that by raising the lower limit--again, just trying to be realistic by, as you said, keeping it to a generation that would understand the same jokes and have the same cultural references as I do.

Oh well. Thanks again for your input. I really appreciate it.

From what I've been seeing older men are looking for women that are young, too young if you ask me.

The most guys that view my profile and put me on their favorite list is men that are old enough to be my dad!

And I don't look that old so my guess is they are really just looking for young gals. T^T which is creepy as heck.

Why do they not want someone near their age? That's what I don't understand.

:< Id rather have someone that is on the same walk of life as I am.

Searching can be frustrating and tricky from my personal observation, to a point were I ended up wondering if fellows end up compromising their requirements just so they find a partner?

I'm often bored out of my mind when trying to enjoy a small conversation with a guy my age. It's disappointing as I often observe a low sense of basic maturity on a little conversation! Now would I have considered him as a partner on a personal level? Ofcause not, I can't make babies with a baby.

I experience the same thing with guys over 40 and even 45s. I know for a fact that there's no way I can be making lifetime solid decisions relying on his input... He just empty other than the number of years. Now what is relating without communicating? What is communication if there's nothing to take from what you share? One is bound to be frustrated!

Then I meet a 48year old who stimulates my level of reasoning. 5days latter I still meditate on a conversation we shared and I look forth talking to him again. Don't I know that we don't stand a chance? But most guys my age are absolutely empty mentally, even those who are older. That's why I'm wondering if those claiming to have found partners are maybe compromising their requirements for a sake of settling and fitting inn?

Perhaps ... they're less ready to write off entire generations of the opposite sex as "mentally empty" :) There are plenty of the shallow, non-intellectual men of any age -- but by no means all. The same can be said of women.
