Just Proverbs 31???
Posted : 6 Aug, 2012 02:36 AM

Hey, I observed that most men quote Provs 31 in their quest for their woman...Its true the Proverbs 31 woman is amazing! But how about other traits of women that you can think of from the Bible in your quest for a godly woman? It just strucked my mind and I got curious. So, I ask again "Just Proverbs 31???" e.g. What about if God wanted you to go marry a Gomer et.al ? Think about these things and pray and maybe we could use this forum to bring out other wonderful women from the Bible whose trait might be just the one you have been waiting! Who knows? Blessings and Best wishes, Deep:)

VD,

I was married to a Gomer. I would not recomend it any more than I would recomend Lots wife.

God specifically told Hosea to take a wife from a certain people for a purpose. Do you know this purpose?

I much prefer a Marry who choose the better thing than her sister Martha and sat at Jesus feet.

She sat and Listened. Not to many people including women know how to listen these days. I am a listener and I want a listener of a woman to team up with. Just us sitting together listening to Jesus at His feet.

Raise the Standard rather than lowering the bar,

Michael

Michael, very true. Raise the standard:) but we can't all have the same type of woman right? God created us all. Also, there are women like Sarah, Deborah, Abigail, Esther, Ruth, Hannah, Eunice, Tabitha etc and the John 4 woman! She's an amazing testimony too. Choices differ, true.but simply, I just wish men would take the time to consider other qualities too. Aby:)

Not all men (or all women) are fooled by the misapplication of the infamous Proverbs 31.

I am going to tell an unorthodox message so some people will not like it, but I say it is proven by the Bible text itself.

Link to Proverbs 31 = http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2031&version=KJV

What it tells there in the very first verse (verse # 1) is that Proverbs 31 is a lecture of the King's mother to her son.

This is NOT a message from God but from the King's mother, which would therefore be the mother-in-law from hell.

That mother wants her son to marry some perfect wife, and Proverbs 31 has requirements that are not right, and Jesus does NOT put those requirements on Women or onto wives.

The mother-in-law from hell is what Proverbs 31 describes.

The Bible gives us examples of both right and of wrong, and Proverbs 31 is an example of wrong.

In verse 6 she says to give booze to sinners as they are already lost, and verse 7 she says to give booze to the poor citizens, and verse 28 her children are to call here as "blessed", and for a mother in law to demand that of her son's wife is putting a lot of undue pressure on any Woman, and onto every Women ever after who views that as being a commandment of God which it is not.

That is my understanding of the text, and so be it.

Sand man are you reading the same passage?

10Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

11(((((The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her))))),

so that he shall have no need of spoil.

(((((( 12She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. )))))))))))

13She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. 14She is like the merchants ships; she bringeth her food from afar. 15She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. 16She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. 17She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. 18She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. 19She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. 20She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. 21She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. 22She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple. 23Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. 24She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. 25Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.

((((((((26She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.))))))))

27She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.

((((((((28Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. ))))))))

(((((((29Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.))))))))

30Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but

((((a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.))))))))

31Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

Please highlight for me anything negitive about this woman.

Her husband trusts her, she does him good, her words are kind, her children caller her blessed and her husband gives her praise, she fears the Lord.........This is a good woman.

Raise the Standard,

Michael

Hi Michael,

I do not say there is anything wrong with the woman, as it is NOT about any woman, because that "Virtuous Woman" is simply the ideal demands from the King's mother, and hopefully God had mercy on whoever the unfortunate daughter in law happened to be.

If you want to "raise the standard" then raise the standard for husbands and for Men, or at least raise the standard for both Men and Women instead of putting such a heavy load onto the wife.

That chapter Proverbs 31 is NOT from God as a commandment - no - that is a unholy demand from King Lemuel's mother.

In the New Testament we find no such doctrine, because in the New Testament it declares every person to be sinners, and every person falls short, and we do not demand some perfect excellent and higher standard from Woman or from wives.

Proverbs 31 is NOT a commandment, as it is an excessive and unjust demand onto wives who do not deserve such pressure.

SandMan_Hollywood

Your Responses here is very interesting.

Many men do look for Proverbs 31 women, however, they are not Perfect in Character themselves.

I met a non Christian on a Christian site and he wanted a Christian wife, yet he was honest to say he likes to fornicate.

Well I would like to have a Christian girlfriend, and maybe she might become my Christian wife, but I would not want her to live up to the demands of P-31.

And if she wore "silk and purple" as verse 22 declares - then I would probably be intimidated by her.

True@Exceeding. Hollywood's explanation or view of Proverbs31 is very interesting and unheard of in a common man's world.

Joy,

In Prov 31.

It doesnt say anything about her not having flaws so lets not read into the passage what is not there.

Let me ask you something please?

Isnt it a womans heart that her man would point out her good qualities? To not only point them out but show great appreciation for them?

Isnt it a womans heart to need appreciation?

Read Prov 31 in this sense. A man showing appreciation to his Lady. Being excite in all her great qualities. Wanting to tell those qualities to those around him.

It is an example for us men as well......Is it not?

Humbly,

Michael

Has anyone ever considered that the prov 31 passage is an example to us men how to show appreciation for a quality Lady?

Think about that............
