Hello. I'm in the middle of day 6 of a 30 day fast and its really important for me to make it to 30 days. I'm dealing with a bad food adiction and it needs to stop now. I'm just looking a someone to be there for me and encourage me. Any tips or advice would be helpful.

Hey brother, you can do it! That's very commendable of you!

I had an uncle that prayed and fasted to quit smoking and during those times he was really blessed by the Lord...and needless to say he quit smoking after it, years of addiction, broken.

As for tips... I can't say I've gone for that long without food(30 days), but I have purposely lowered my caloric intake before in order to continue working while lowering hunger.. I just saw food as calories necessary to live...

Hang in there man!

Fasting is not a way to deal with any kind of eating disorder. You're trading one problem for another.

I'm not too clear on the purpose of the fast, but if you feel your fasting is what the Lord wants, then hang in, cause if it's from God, you can do it.

Is addiction to bad food an eating disorder? Bit harsh.

It is when the OP classified his reasons for fasting as a "food addiction" (his words) and his fast as the means of dealing with it.

Neither one of those is a healthy way of looking at eating.

It has nothing to do with "bad food" but with the OP self-identifying himself as having an "addiction." Which indicates that he feels his eating habits are in some way mentally unhealthy. As for whether or not the food is "good" or "bad," food is amoral. It isn't good or bad. It just is. It's a matter of taste and preference.

how do you get all of this from the brother's post...

I think it's best to not jump to conclusions w/o knowing the facts. I think it's bad eating when I eat pop corn or potato chips, I do it regualarly, do I have an eating disorder. If I simply told you I have bad eating tendacies, I guess you would say I have a disorder.

In the post, your brother asked for support, giving that is completely up to you, but you really should IMO; take care at what you say to people.

He said (paraphrased because I can't see the thread from the reply box), "I have a bad food addiction and am going to fast for 30 days."

You don't really have to be Sherlock Holmes to deduce "food addiction" and "fast" from such a statement.

I also think it's far more supportive to call someone out on destructive habits than to be "nice" and just pat them on the back and let them keep going. ESPECIALLY when they admit those habits themselves.

I think your reading comprehension is off. I thought I was clear about this but let me spell it out again:

1. I don't read this as he is eating "bad food." Food is amoral.

2. I don't consider chips, popcorn, whatever "bad" food. They are just food.

3. Therefore, I don't consider eating "bad food" an eating disorder, because I DON'T BELIEVE BAD FOOD EXISTS.

The adjective "bad" is, as I read it, modifying "addiction."

"I have an addiction to food which is bad."

And it is. That's unhealthy.

But going cold turkey on an "addiction" to FOOD - something your body needs to survive, unlike a drug addiction - is dangerous and is setting up someone who may already struggle with addiction to swing to the opposite end of the spectrum, or fall off the proverbial wagon even harder should they fail.

Additionally, a fast is generally supposed to have a spiritual purpose, not a "here's a way to kill two birds with one stone and get physically healthy" purpose.

If the OP is concerned about his diet and health than he should talk to his doctor about ways to get healthier.

If his relationship with food is such that he calls it an "addiction" than that indicates to me a sense of dependency that needs more support than "hey, way to go!" or even "eat vegetables."

Is that more clear?

I don't care if I'm nice, because I'm concerned.

"He said (paraphrased because I can't see the thread from the reply box)" - might want to take the time to read the post again.

You've brought my point home, thank you. "Bad food" is relative, what that means for me, may not mean the same for you. Pop corn/Chips are bad IMO because they are not healthy and they are fattening.

You don't know by the poist what Bad Food means for the Brother.

Now I'm by no means perfect and at times my comprehension can be off. But the way I see it; you're making a lot of psychological noise about facts you don't know.

I'm done here

You're great at being patronizing and not so great at addressing my point.

I don't need to read the post again because reading the post again won't change that the webpages is made so as to not show the thread and the reply box at the same time.

But yes, please be done here. You're not helpful.
