Are we doing the right thing?

Sometimes I wonder, we say we want God to lead us to our right mate, are we allowing to do this by seeking out people on dating sites? I'm a little confused because so far... cold turkey lol. What do you guys think?

Personally I dont think there is a right way or wrong way of going about finding a spouse. I think people put too much pressure on getting everything perfect. Whats critical is meeting the person, it doesnt really matter how.

I know that there are a lot of marriages that should never have happened. Too many people want to marry someone so badly that they settle for the first person that comes along. There has been a real push to make sure you are marrying the right one that we push the standards to impossible heights. We substitute perfection for good character. We run around thinking that to have a good marriage we must do everything perfectly. This is total garbage. To have a good marriage all you need is two people after Gods heart.

God uses many different ways to bring people together. Using a dating site is just one of the ways God can do it.

Kjd, there are very few people on this site from Trinidad. Unless you look outside of your country you will most likely have a hard time finding someone on this site.

I think dating sites are just another tool that God can use to help you find your future spouse. But i'm pretty big on knowing a person in-person before thinking of marriage :P

I think Cobbler and Samsonoxide both voiced my thoughts about dating sites: they are one way in which God can allow us to meet the one we should marry. But like Samsonoxide also said, I need to know the person in-person before thinking of marriage. To me, that's a HUGE part of it, and that is why I don't want a long-distance relationship. I need to spend time with someone. I need to see if he annoys me to death. I need to get a feel for what he's like in a variety of situations. I need to see him interact with other people. I need to see how he lives a Christian life. It's just WAY too easy for people to hide things online.

It's refreshing, though, when you talk to someone for a long time (one or two years) online as a friend, then get to spend a good bit of time with him in person, and think "Wow, he is exactly the same in-person as he is online." That is a rare occasion when long-distance might work after all.

But I digress. Dating sites are valid ways of putting ourselves in positions where God can bring along someone special. I don't think, though, that we should ever close ourselves off from meeting people in "real life" through our jobs, church, friends, etc. That is certainly the more common way of meeting a future spouse!

thanks for the replies guys. I get what yopu're saying. To Coibbler though, I don't limit myself to one country but somehow everyone or the majority seems to. But hey all things are possible right?

If God has a problem with the path your on let set you straight ... it is much easier to steer a ship that is moving as opposed to one that is standing still.
