A better dating site

This is obviously a for everyone post:

Stegoodie mentioned that this site is not very effective at helping you find someone. What sort of changes or additions would you like to see in a site? What do you think would help make the search a lot easier?

The biggest thing for me would be an indicator of some sort to let me know if someone is an active user or not. It's aggravating to look at a profile and not know if the person logged in two days ago or two years ago.

It would also help if we were prompted to answer certain questions about ourselves in the profile, and it might also help if there were a minimum word requirement. That might solve the problem of some people not saying ANYTHING about themselves.

There are a lot of testimonials of people meeting on here and getting married on the bottom of the front page.

Knowing when they last logged in would be nice, but it does say if they were online today or not.

The ability to have a chat with someone in Private without a bunch off pop ups...mandatory pics...hmm...having questionair filled out helps...some type of system that would help a womans inbox not get flooded...idk...

What sorts of questions would I include? I like to see questions similar to those on Christian Cafe (which operates similar to CDFF, but is a lot more expensive!). They include things like educational background, dream job and/or current job, family background, goals and plans, purpose for joining the site, spiritual journey, fun facts, what you are looking for in a girl/guy, etc. Mostly things that really guide a person in writing a good profile. You can write as much or as little as you want on there, and answer all or only some of the questions. That's why I'd also like to see a word minimum...it would be easy to answer none of the questions or answer with one or two words, which wouldn't solve the problem at all.

I created a profile on ChristianCafe, I didnt like it. I still felt that the profiles were too vague. I actually liked eHarmonys way of doing it. It was very boring, but at least they dragged some answers out of you. Mostly they give you a bunch of questions and ask you to rate your like or dislike from 1-10.

One of the main things for me, as stegoodie pointed out, is being able to filter out a lot of the profiles automatically. If all the site is going to do is throw a bunch of profiles at you, it is no better than just meeting people in person. That was another part that I liked about eHarmony, if you didnt match, they dont show it to you. Its a little frustrating when you dont get a match, but getting a bunch of matches you dont care about isnt any help either.

I agree about Christian Cafe. I did the 10-day free trial, and didn't like it any better than CDFF. I felt like I was wading through a whole bunch of profiles of guys that really weren't what I'm looking for. The only positive thing was that at least there were some specific questions to answer.

I've also filled out the eHarmony profile up to the point where I would have to pay, and it seemed much better. Boring, yes. But at least the guys it matched me with seemed to have some potential. I just can hardly stand the thought of paying THAT much for a dating site...especially with the lack of luck I've had on here. But, then again, if that lack of luck continues, I might be more tempted to give it a try!

What? It's not worth $50/month to find a good husband?

Proverbs 31:10 (NASB)

10 An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above jewels.

I would like to see chat room and forum monitors.

I would like to see a requirement of at least 1 picture and a profile text that is at least 30 words long.

I would also like it if CDFF deleted profiles where the person hadn't accessed it in the last year.

Well, we had a forum monitor, but she got banned :excited:

I do agree with you that if they haven't updated their profile in a year, it should get archived. It would also be nice to have an automated search that lets you know when a new person who meets your critea comes on the site, for those who don't want to spend time in the forums.

It would be a bit difficult for a site to have official chat room monitors, since you would have to have one person per chat room. That could get a bit expensive. I can understand the wisdom in it, but not necessarily the cost effectiveness of it.

Would you be willing to pay a one time fee for the site? That would help reduce the scammers and maybe put a little bit of seriousness into people. It's easy not to care if you don't have any money into it.
