So, heres where the awkwardness begins for all you boys!

*WOOT!*

So, i keep wondering if guys are really just generally turned off by girls who are overweight?

im not skinny, granted, God made me skinny boned so I should be thin, but because of life instinces I began to eat my feelings and emotions. Now, due to Gods grace and love I am working it out and am working on losing weight. But I still have guys say, "Youre so awesome, if you were thinner, or in great shape I would date you". That really sucks to hear, but whatever that makes them look stupid not me. But seriuosly, are guys so shallow that they wont even look at a bigger girl twice? I mean, im overweight but am pretty good lookin and have a really great personality so why do guys keep over looking me?>

Just wondering...

To think that being obese is in any way shape or form healthy is delusional. That's the same as saying smoking, doing drugs or being an alcoholic is healthy. Just because you don't have cancer or a dying liver right now doesn't mean that it isn't taking its toll. The same applies to being obese. I want to clarify that I'm not talking about being a little overweight, I'm talking about obesity and if you don't know the difference, then you can talk to your doctor or do the research online.

The more weight you carry, the more damage is done to your joints and veins that aren't designed to carry that much weight. Additionally, if you carry a lot of weight in your stomach, a lot of pressure is placed on internal organs and that causes damage as well.

I know there are a lot of great people out there that are obese. I have a very good friend (my kids call her "aunt" and we spend everything Thanksgiving with her) who is pushing 350 and I've seen the toll it's taken on her health. Can you be active and still be obese? Sure, but not the same active level as those who aren't. She can't spend the day at Six Flags walking around, she can't even ride most of the rides. I lover her dearly and I don't judge her for her problem, we all have them, but that doesn't mean that I want to take that on in my future husband.

Should I take on an alcoholic or a drug addict just because he's a nice guy? Everyone has problems, but everyone also has problems they're not willing to take on and for me, this is one of them. Both my parents were obese and my father died when I was 9 from a heart attack as a result. My mother died 9 years ago from diabetes and a her 3rd heart attack. If you think you can get away with being obese and not have health problems, you're fooling yourself.

I'm sorry to hear about your parents dallas, I can see how that would motivate you to pursue a health conscious lifestyle. From my delusional state, I will attempt to explain my viewpoint. I, in no form advocate a unhealthy lifestyle. Obesity is an problem, especially here in America. But to say we all have to be skinny or muscle-bound indicates that someone ate one too many broccoli spears. I am thick(I guess yall would say fat) and healthy.

Also, I don't know who is saying that you or anyone has to date or marry someone who is less than your ideal of what and who they should be. I'm thick and I don't expect anyone who is not attracted to want to date. I've been saying that everyone has the right to like what they like.

All I know is that I'm near 330 pounds...I love playing all types of sports...soccer, basketball, tennis, football, etc., etc., etc....When I go to the park to play ball I"m the one saying "lets play full court". When I play soccer I will play goalie but prefer to be up on the front line. Numerous people find it hard to believe that I weigh what I weigh because of my active level. I have two uncles...one is obese the other is as skinny as a rail...both struggle massively with diabetes. My grandfather died of diabetes and was a very thin man. I heard of athletes in their prime collasp and die from heart failure...I'm not going to say that by being bigger that I may risk having a heart attack or getting diabetes or other diseases but I can't find a trend that says by being thin you are protected from those same things and to use that fear as an excuse to not want to date someone my size...well I find it horrible! Just be honest you aren't attractive to "fat" to guys...if I make excuses for not wanting to date "fat" women then I'm considered shallow, why won't a woman admit that she may be shallow as well??? Sorry but I guess after 26 years of being single and appearing that my weight is the single issue as to why this topic really gets to me...:MrT:(I just realized there was a MR. T smilely face!!)

Go ahead storm and BG!!!!

I'm skinny, not because I exercise or eat healthy. I have a VERY high metabolism! I need calories and fat! The more I eat the more my body wants me to eat... The less I eat (normal amounts) the quicker I feel hungry. I feel like I am in a no win situation because it's hard to find peace. It seems like most people who speak out against "fat" persons do so from a place of fear. If that's not what you are into, if you are not attracted to a person then keep.it.moving! Body size is another dimension of attraction no need to keep defending why you do are not attracted to thick people... do you.

To address something I saw earlier, I have seen small girls with larger men. I see it quite often. I would say just as much as I see large women with smaller men.

Nyanda, Actually from what I've read your problem might be due to slow metabolism, not fast.

Think about it, metabolism moves at such a slow pace that by the time it gets around to digesting the food you ate, it already passed through your body, so you have to eat even more just to get enough nutrients metabolized to maintain your weight. It's the reason why certain people can eat like a T-Rex on a bingefest and still not gain an ounce.

I would research this further before taking my word for it, but assuming that's what it is, you could explore taking supplements that helps boosts your metabolism. Like cayenne peppers. I loves me my spicy foods BTW. :goofball:

Well, I was gonna say a little somethin somethin but Nyanda beat me to it. I too have a high rate of metabolism and can eat whatever I want and not gain an ounce. I'm so skinny I have to run around in the shower to get wet and banjogirl is-dare I say- pleasingly plump- and she can out run, out whoop, and out cook any girl in these parts. I've seen some folks so big if they were able to jump up in the air they'd get stuck and their mates were happy as a dead pig in sunshine.

That being said, yep-everybody has their preferneces. Some folks are bothered by big people (or small people) and others aren't. BG is right as well, we live in a media controlled society and some folks are influenced by what Hollywood tells us is the norm of glamour. Yes, there are some unhealthy overweight people out there, but weight alone is not always a contributing factor. Lifestyle choices play a major role. A lot of people are big boned or just plain big. Period. I know a lot of big folks that can run a marathon and not break sweat. Dan Blocker was a friend of my family-my father is buried right beside him in East Tx - and I've seen him wrangle cows, lug his boat up hill toting 3 big tow sacks of frogs with all his gear and wasn't winded at all. I've seen much slimmer folks like myself who weren't able to walk from one end of Walmart to the other without having to sit down. Anyway, I know everybody has a right to their preferences and shouldn't be begrudged for it, but personally, I just wouldn't feel right compiling a list of how I want to my mate to look. I know you have to take in consideration common interests, religious and political views, and such; but I'd feel awful uncomfortable naming off the attributes I'd want in order for us to be compatible- such as hair color, height, weight, shoe size, number of good teeth, etc. As long as we clicked and felt that "spark" I'm a happy camper. To me (and this is just my opinion) that is what you do when you look for a new car, a steak, or a horse, and I would never compare a woman to a horse.-(Though I have met a few that could really nag!) It just wouldn't sit right with me. I guess I'm a product of my raisin'.

I eat pepper like ketchup, I actually enjoy the taste. Supplements make the food disappear FAST, and has me in the kitchen constantly. I'm pretty sure it's not slow metabolism... I'll live, things could be worse:winksmile:

@Edwin, My brother from another mother! I love you!!!:peace:

I have missed you up in here!! Especially your wicked sense of humor! I love your maturity and ability to look beyond the outer shell and into the thing that makes people really who they are.

When I was younger, what a man looked like played a bigger role in what I considered attractive. As I've gotten older, and realize how our forever changing flesh has sooo little to do with what and who a person really is, I look at weight, gray hair, and all that as a little thing in the big scheme of things.

I, of course want someone who is healthy. EVERYONE HAS A RIGHT TO LIKE WHAT THEY LIKE AND BE OR NOT BE ATTRACTED TO WHATEVER! I understand the health piece, but I also have a right to think that some are more shallow than others.

Edwin? Lurl! That was funny!

I just couldn't stay away too long or folks might think one of these banjo pickers down here fed me to the groundhogs.

Anyway, we have a saying in my college algebra class- well actually we have quite a few- but at the begining of class the professor wrote on the board "Like Goes With Like." I guess that applies to some folks as well as integers.
