There's been a lot of debate about what we should/shouldn't talk about on the forums! What do you think? How much can we talk about before it needs to be "private"?

Sex/Sexual Orientation?

Drunkenness?

Gluttony?

Anger/Pride?

Jealousy/Coveting?

Addiction/Predisposition?

Sin in general?

@godslamb

CDFF has set their forum up for heteroposts; (a guy may ask a girl/guy and a girl may ask a guy/girl.) There is no section for homoposts; (where only girls can ask a girl and only guys can ask a guy.) The loss of focus as you put, it occurs when guys answer in the 'ask a girl' section and girls answer in the 'ask the guy' section effectively turning them in to two bipost sections.

Note:

If my vocabulary offends any of you as Christians it is because you have allowed the enemy to rob, steal and destroy words that belong to all of us to use. Is it wrong to take back that which has been stolen?

I guess if these topics should be discussed privately then God wouldn't put it in the Bible where all people can read it.

Sparrow, I LOVED your heteropost vs. homopost play on words, very clever. Those of you who are having trouble understanding it might want to read what he wrote in parenthesis after using these words, but I know for the most part you are just having fun with the new terms.

Anyway, while I do believe all topics should be open for discussion as a person sees fit, free speech can be a huge burden. It means somebody that disagrees with you, for good reasons or none at all, can overreact, twist your words, behave like an angry child, or call you a n y m p h o for simply stating an observation completely unrelated to sex. I have had all of these happen to me, a few more than once. Almost all of these come from situations where I was addressing a man, and the ones that were addressing a woman were responded to negatively by a man. As Sparrow has pointed out in the past, the women on the board generally are more merciful, so maybe it has something to do with that, but I think a lot of it arises from me being a young woman.

Then there is the issue of all of our discussions being in an inflectionless, background-less environment where we are free to assume the absolute worst of everybodys words. I have learned to be very creative and tactful with how I word things that I feel are important not to be misinterpreted, but akin to what savebygrace said, if somebody is in a certain state of mind or just dont want to know why you feel the way you do or disagree with them, they will read one or two sentences of a post, however long it takes for them to get offended by something, and without reading the rest go on a tangent about how somebody is wrong for saying or thinking something without reading their explanation.

What almost all sin, misunderstanding, and general negativity in the forums can be attributed to are our egos and desire to offend them. Usually when somebody has a good point that is under attack, they can make a solid, calm argument; some people arent able to keep their cool as well, or feel personally attacked by every bit of advice they ask for. If we were talking face to face, I think it would be easier for us to take each other seriously as people and be a bit more respectful, but as with anything involving open speech, controversy isnt exactly avoidable. Everybody else on the forum has some kind of life experience and reasons why they are the way they are, just like you do.
