Is Ethnicity an Issue?

Im black.

Okay Youre still there, good, because usually by now the white guys start to leave  ... But really ...

Ethnicity truly doesnt matter to me and Ive talked to guys across the whole spectrum. However, this problem only arrises when I talk to white guys, Ive had varying responses like, you know I could never introduce you to my parents, right? Or, I just wanted to know what it would be like, as if dating another ethnicity would give them magical powers. When I go out and meet people, guys will talk to my white girlfriends, but seem to overlook me. Now, Im wondering if that it because:

black is simply unattractive to them,

they fear the culture is different,

they assume I will be an angry black woman,

they are intimidated by me,

theyre scared I wont like them because they are white?

I maybe overanalyzing the situation too much, maybe Im just straight up ugly and boring and thats why theyre not interested :goofball:

And no need to say "they're the one missing out," lol, because I know God has someone in store for me. :MrT: "I pity the fool!" (ah, I had to, never thought I'd use that emodicon!)

So I guess my question is, why do white men not seem to be interested in me?

:stop: For the brothas reading I have nothing against you, Im open to anyone as long as they are God fearing and it is evident by their fruit.

Linc, I admitted hating on you as a compliment, but don't take it too far & get on my bad side. I've been looking for a nemesis for awhile now & you better ask somebody & be extremely sure before you become 'that guy'. Now...I'm not saying it's right but many blacks don't give or feel white ppl have ANY leniency when it comes to race issues. Concerning your example, they were showing pride & not selling out. And you were just displaying another example of a white man thinking he is better than them.

Darn my text limit! In addition, many blacks feel the way they do because of the history that we have here in America. Even though blacks have made tremendous strides, (President Obama and nem), many still are fighting against more subtle forms of racism in their everyday lives. I know from your viewpoint, it's an obvious double standard, but it is a justified viewpoint to others.

1babygirl , I know you were kidding, hence the

But your other comments exemplify another reason why I wouldn't date black women. There is no circumstance in which a double standard is justified. If anything it adds to the racial tensions and present blacks as hypocrites who apply one standard for themselves and another standard for white people.

The fact that you assert my preference for white women is a way of me saying I'm better than black people is ridiculous. It affirms my original assessment that interracial dating is just asking for trouble. there will be exceptions of course, but they will also be uncommon.

First, I want to apologize to the originator of this post, we are all off subject! Second, Linc, I WAS playin' with you. I had a male here(P-luc) a few months back and we had an awesome debating/sparring relationship that I miss terribly. We are now friends and he will be getting married in a couple weeks. Yay! Anyway, I didn't say that YOU thought you were better, but was explaining why your peeps said what they said. I don't personally think the mindset is right. It comes from unresolved anger for the...

wrongs that have been done to our ancestors. We have a rich oral history tradition and alot of messed up stuff happened. Many don't believe they are asserting the standard, but that the double standard against us has existed since slavery. I agree that interracial relationships have special challenges, I also believe some are up to it and genuine love coupled with God's blessing makes it all good. You don't know what you're missing though, I'm just sayin'...

@babygirl

Does your rich oral tradition of history include how Africans huinted, trapped and captured their African brothers and sisters and sold them to Portuguese slave traders?

In the late 1800's did Blacks in America rise up and take their freedom breaking the bonds of slavery in this country or did many Whites work, sacrifice, give their entire lives and die to break the bonds of slavery in this country?

Don't you think it would be healthier for all off society if these stories were included in your rich oral tradition of history?

If they were it would present a more balanced view of history remembering peoples actions regardless of color.

As it is right now these rich oral traditions do more to foster strife, unforgiveness and even racism creating tension in todays society

A quote from the movie "Kingdom of Heaven" that I am going to tweak a bit to serve my purpose:

"None of us had black slaves. No black now alive was born wihen slavery existed. We fight over a offense we did not give ... against those who were not alive to be offended"

Every ethnic group has had a turbulent history of hardships, slavery, etc, including my own, so I could actually make the same argument too. :nahnah:

BTW, why are your texts limited? I haven't had a problem with that here, and I'm pretty sure I've written longer comments than yours too. Weird.

@ Twosparrows, Yes, our rich oral tradition does include how our own brothers helped your ancestors enslave my people. I DO NOT AGREE WITH THE MINDSET THAT CARRIES A DOUBLE STANDARD FOR BLACK AND WHITE PEOPLE. Because I am black and was born in a majority black community (Gary, Indiana), I have been around those who feel this way and even understand how they have come to their conclusions. AGAIN, I DO NOT ENDORSE THIS LINE OF THINKING. I did have to come to terms with the viewpoints that I was brought up with and forgive. I've moved on.

@Linc, I am on a computer now, but usually I am on my cell phone and it treats my posts as a regular text message which only allows 512 characters per text including spaces.

Thank yall for the debate, hope I have not offended any. I'm never angry in this type of venue, but I've been known to rile folk and that is not my intention.
