How do you feel about polygamy? Do you feel it is morally wrong or something that God would approve of??? And would you ever consider practicing it yourself?

Philipian, I admit that I don't know much about bible characters

who remained monogamous in spite of their situations which usually

would have caused another man to become polygamyc in those times.

It must be interesting and inspiring, so that is something I have

to look up. And no, I have never tried to keep two wifes at the

same time, so I can't say anything about it from the practical side.

But I just want some things to be clear once and for all. If you

would ask me now, I'd compare polygamy to eating meat. From 'in the

beginning', trough the old testament, to Jesus filling in the law.

But if it's about polygamy, no one has to die to make another happy.

I need some time to figure some things out here, but thanks for now!

I would have to ask anyone considering it to really seek to understand their motives why first.

Scripture gives us principles concerning relationship. We have the yoke of oxen where their are two doing the work together in unity.

We have the three fold cord of Christ, Husband and wife. It speakes of one not as good as two and three being the stongest.

We have the original to look at. Adam and Eve.

We have Christ and His bride as example.

You see it is only when we look at what man is doing when we go astray. Look to what God is doing and has done not man.

Their is enough example to see that Gods plan is for one man and one woman without divorce.

You will find what you search for and what you search for speakes of our hearts. Our hearts motives in what we will be judged in more than our actions.

It is in our motives that all sin and rebellion comes from. That seperates us from God or makes us His children by repenting and believing in Christs covering of blood.

Let us be people who seek the hidden things of our hearts that we might live, please.

@Armin, thanks for your response. Please do take time to study the scripture as you hinted you would like to do. Its so plain and simple to see what God commanded and demanded from us and what in turn we are expected to give back to me.

We must not twist the word to suit our gains, but must allow the word to squeeze us so we can be more like Christ. Good you have not kept two women at once. Good polygamy to you for now is a meat. Above all, please allow the truth of the word of God a place in your heart and you will see the difference and the brilliance of illumination Christ can do in your life!

I agree strongly with letthismind2. Seriously question the underlying motivations if you are even inviting polygamy. Not only is it by nature a discriminating policy that has allowed men to dominate women for millennia (sorry boys but 1 woman many men has barely even existed in real life) and not only is it totally unfair and awful also to men, many of whom in such systems will obviously not be able to have any wives (unless you allow sharing...which is a different beast entirely) but it has historically been driven by nothing better than lust and sin. Sin by men to dominate women and possess more flesh for themselves.

And using the whole "Well it's in the bible....it must be okay!!!!" is a very weak argument since slavery was abound in the bible as well. (As was incest, murder, adultery, rape) Are you going to walk up to your black neighbor and ask him to be your slave again because the bible has recorded slavery and you are merely being an 'obedient christian'? What a self-serving faith you would be living and if you were a member of a group that was previously enslaved, I somehow doubt whether you would voluntarily walk up to someone and ask to be enslaved because slavery is in the bible.

At the end of the day, polygamy was not in God's plan, but like other human failures, God has done his best to incorporate it into his master plan for us. God knows the evil of it, and how it is such an unequal and discriminatory system. Just look at the culture of the FLDS and look at how primitive and backwards all the people are in it, let alone the women. General ignorance of the world, of math and science is profound, and because polygamy is mathematically unsustainable you see them kicking out boys. It's just beyond words disgusting.

Polygamy may be culturally based, and it may even have its incidences mentioned in the Bible, but that in no way suggest its endorsement by the Instrumentality of the Word of God.! Polygamy is man sought after, and maybe man's conquest to secure harems, never has it become Bible Doctrinally approved! Never.
