It's been on my heart to ask, so I'll go ahead...

Do men view romance differently than women?

As in they don't like it at all?

I'll be more specific, romance to women means: Being with someone who loves and cares for them, and usually looks out for them, and wants to sort of be attentive and kind to them, you know, someone who just sort of loves the person you are and your relationship with God, and wants to feel that way towards her husband.

Okay, now let's go over here to the opposite side of the track, I'm not a man, never going to think like a guy, so I'm going on testimony.

Men think: Practically, typically about their jobs and physical comfort from the woman, as a man wants a wife, I've heard a few of them say it's primarily for practicality, cooking and to have someone to be there for them -physically- and have children with, and sort of look after everything.

Okay, what I'm asking is, do men value romance at all, like women do? Or do you think it's pointless, maybe a little impractical or downright gross?

A man told me once that romance and love as women see it was like pornography is for men, mostly fantasy and based off of untrue conclusions on how men think.

I hope I haven't offended anyone, this is a rather deep topic, I guess. I really just wanted to know.

LOL. John Wayne spanks like a pro.

I suppose his wife sort of had it coming?

If you are referring to the version of Sense and Sensibility by Emma Thompson (the one with Kate Winslet and Hugh Grant), it actually is not very close to the book at all. There are very few scenes in the movie that are in the book. But, every scene has the feel and character of the book. If you listen to the commentaries on the DVD, Emma Thompson discusses that very topic. There are a lot of minor characters that are missing, events that are combined, or take place somewhere else. But, it was so well done that it feels just like the book, even though it isnt.

That was the first time I saw Hugh Laurie. He was awesome as Mr. Palmer.

Maybe I was confused by the good acting, and yes he was funny as Mr. Palmer.

You were probably confused by the script, it won an academy award.

The two most accurate (that I have seen) are A&Es Pride and Prejudice and the 1983 miniseries of Mansfield Park.

I own the A&E's Pride and Prejudice, I have never seen the miniseries for Mansfield Park, is it good? I don't even believe I've read the book.

The version I am speaking of is accurate, but poorly done. The main characters are good, but there is plenty of bad acting, poor lighting, bad sound, bad editing. Very low budget. Not to mention six hours.

But, its almost word for word from the book.

I havent seen any other versions.

That might have been what confused me, yes.

Which of the books and films did you like most, based on the storyline, and characters?

I love all the A&E Jane Austen movies. Pride and Prejudice is my favorite, though. (I don't like the new Keira Knightly version very much for some reason.)

I think the Emma Thompson version of Sense and Sensibility is great, even if it isn't like the book. Hugh Laurie was absolutely perfect as Mr. Palmer. There is another version that is really good (and more like the book). I can't remember if it's A&E, BBC, or something else...I just know that it was LONG! And good.

I agree with you, Bcpianogal, and riveroflife.

Yes, I can imagine twosparrows answer to this question.
