I am sure this topic has probably been explored already, but it is something that has been on my mind lately.

What type of education would you prefer that your partner has? Would you prefer someone who is less educated than you? At the same educational level as you? More educated than you?

It seems to me that, in general, women prefer men who are equally or more educated than them and men tend to prefer women who are equally or less educated than them. In effect, this would mean that as a woman climbs the educational ladder her dating pool diminishes whereas for men the opposite would occur. Of course, these are broad generalizations and they by no means apply to every person. So I am curious to know what your opinions are on the matter.

Personally, I would prefer to date someone who had an educational background fairly similar to my own simply because I think we would relate better if we had similar experiences to share. It would be nice if the guy had a background in science because otherwise I might feel that I was boring him when I go into nerd mode and start talking about the science or engineering behind this or that. I am not opposed to the idea of dating someone outside of the field of science; after all it can be fun to learn from each other as well.

What are your thoughts?

Sorry...no offense...couldn't help myself.

I have to agree with MsMarvel and 2Sparrows. I have met more than a few of what my Dad use to call "educated fools."

I have been on both ends of the spectrum. I worked my way up from laborer to supervising manager of one of the nation's largest steel company with nothing more than a high school education. I even owned a small chain of hardware stores and a small ranch. Then when I got a little money saved, I decided to see what I was missing out and attended college. Even though I've made the Dean's list every semester, can write out and understand many of Einsteins and Schrdinger's theories, and can cipher a little better than Jethro Bodine, I still can't say I'm any smarter. I only had a little better opportunities than some.

The lack of a college education doesn't necessarily mean you are lazy, unmotivated, or lack goals. By no means am I knocking a college education, it's just been my experience not all of us have the same opportunities as others. Sometimes life gets in the way.

Proverbs 18:6 says: "A fool's lips bring him strife, and his mouth invites a beating."

It seems that I have been a fool tonight. I sincerely apologize to anyone who was hurt by, or took offense to, my original insensitive comment.

Stegoodie, you're no fool, I'm sure. I have to accept your apology and say that I most definitely forgive you. I have said some really insensitive things as well in the past and probably on this subject.

I pray God blesses you, and the rest of the warm, kind people on this thread. You're each amazing in your own ways.

Stegoodie, no offense at all, and sorry if my response came off a little "ranty." Everybody has their own personal preferences and are certainly entitiled to them.

God bless you, my friend.

Mr. Stegoodie, I took no offense to your post, and as edw said, you absolutely have the right to any preferences you wish. God has His hand in everything we do, so don't sweat it. :) Everything will work out just as it's supposed to. I also hope you (or anyone else) didn't find my post offensive. :)

It's all about perspective. :)

It's a big mistake to judge someone on their level of education

Education is definitly a good thing. I think too much attention is paid to the percieved status of a degree or subject though. So in that regard I don't care what they do or do not have. In a person it shows in their maturity, character, and wisedom, and other qualities.

"There is no wealth like knowledge. No poverty like ignorance."
