Random Question-Gas Prices-How Low Was It?

Question for everybody.

The other day, as my kids and I stopped to get gas, I told them I remember gas being $.89 per gallon when I was in HS and started paying attention. You would have thought I said I used to play with dinosaurs when I was little. They were like WOOOOOOWWWWW.

As gas prices continue to rise toward the $5 mark, I'm curious how much was gas in your earliest memory?

I remember Hi test being a quarter during price wars.

My Dad got ten loaves of bread at the day old store for a dollar.

Spare a thought for us in the UK - after taxes, our fuel is possibly the most expensive in Europe!

As an example; when I started driving (ummm, around 15yrs ago), petrol was around 55 pence per litre and diesel around 49 pence. Our imperial gallons are approx 4.56 litres and historically, US dollars are worth roughly half a UK pound (), so that'd be maybe four/five dollars per gallon - FIFTEEN YEARS AGO!

As of today, petrol is 1.32 per litre and diesel around 1.41. Not sure of todays exchange rate but assuming the same to make things easy; our fuel costs around fifteen dollars per gallon. Not fun when my car (admittedly smaller and more economical than most American cars) manages around 26mpg and has nearly a hundred litre tank to fill!

:excited:
