to guys from a guy - how do you handle The Question .. "Does This Make Me Look Fat" ...?

Watching the Geico commercial with Abe Lincoln being asked that question by his wife is a scream, but it highlights one of the most trying moments in a relationship that a man can be asked by a woman .. and one of the most telling, I think ..

I have my own experiences in marriage I can discuss, but have you ever been zinged by a girl dating you on this? I surely hope not, but one thing is certain, the marital/dating status makes a big difference.

Want some O's, guys.

And gals, can you explain why you might put a man on the spot with something like this?

I guess I'm one of those gals that put a man on the spot once. I only wanted to know a man's opinion at the time. I had on a white blouse, which I thought made me look bigger,so I asked him how I looked. He had a little trouble answering me, but then he told me the truth and said it did make me look bigger. So then I changed clothes..lol

My Ex was on the heavy side not obese. However I loved her for who she was inside. I think best way to avoid this question is to always let her know she is beautiful, tell her she looks nice etc etc. Chances are you won't be asked this question. Also I have been shopping many times before and I have learned don't let a woman only take one garment to try on cause if it does look bad well you know. If she goes in with 2 or 3 garments she comes out with first shake your head ok, let's see other 2. After the 3rd garment you can say I personally thought 2nd one looked the best, it may not of been her favorite but my EX ended up buying that garment 75% of the time. My guess is she knows you think she is beautiful so she wants to wear what you think she is even more so wearing.

I don't play the game here of flirting with a dozen women at once and only have 3 women favorited all told in over 5 months of being here, at different times of trying to meet them. When one didn't respond after a couple emails, I went to another and I've only done the "favorite thing" just those 3 times.

The one I still have has this AWESOME perspective on the questions .. I love what that one sister wrote on her profile that I favorited:

>>I'm not a fanatic, high-maintenance snob, but I do take great pride and care in my appearance and my total package. I will never ask "does this make me look fat"? (I've been perfectly capable of looking in the mirror for some time now and don't believe in asking trick questions)

Well... I look at it this way-- If she's asking me a question on how she looks, then she already knows the answer. There is no point in compromising my integrity by replacing her doubt with a lie. Now while this may temporarily put my like-ability status in jeopardy, in the long run it builds trust.

For you married guys out there....there's always Proverbs 25:24 :)

Oh Kat hahaha

My real answer would probably be something more along the lines of, "You know better than to ask me that question." I don't play the fishing for compliments game. That way, when you get a compliment form me, you know it's genuine.

my preference would be for him to tell the truth.

but I would never ask that anyway...cuz like Tulip said, it's our fat that makes us look fat, lol

My ex at the beginning of my marriage first timidly asked the question about 2 years into our relationship. The style of clothing and its fit is the critical issue. I understood - kind of sort of - what she was fishing for but didn't quite say it well. She was a painfully sensitive person then and took hard my attempt to be honest (it didn't make her look fat because she already was fat, GB her). She did put on a lot of weight after we married - almost 70 pounds and it began to affect her health.

Times changed. She successfully dieted and worked it all off and then some and the question again got asked a couple years later. By this time, we'd talked over what she was asking without bringing the moment itself up and she changed herself too. She'd gotten better at handling the answer, one I don't think she was read to handle when she first asked it.

She started to dress more stylishly and fashionably and I could appreciate her desire for my honesty.

The last time she asked the question, maybe three months before she dropped the D bomb on me, she clearly wanted honesty and because I understood where she was coming from, I could give it and she accepted it and moved on (by then, she was working out a lot at the Y, doing kick boxing, squats, yoga and she was in the best shape of her life).

I assume her new husband is enjoying the fruits of her labor now, I guess. The guy has a pretty good sized pot belly and at least a couple chins, so I guess her tastes have gotten simpler. Men who like looking fat and gnarly and don't mind breaking up marriages became her future. She's welcome to it. I'm moving on for a far better one .. it would be interested to see how this sleaze handles the question though.

I don't think any man likes to look fat and gnarly. Many men battle a weight problem just like women do.

You sound a little bitter concerning your ex wife. Calling her 'this sleaze' doesn't sound appropriate coming from a Preacher. :excited:

You said you're moving on to something far better. Maybe in her mind, she has too.

Hope you weren't wearing too many clothes that 'made you look fat'.
