Gentlemen,

A comment was made in another posting concerning how much a gentleman expects to spend on a date. The amount REALLY surprised me. So my question for you is, how much do you (or someone you know) typically budget to spend on a date? Does the amount increase or decrease with age? Does geographic location (within the US) have a significant impact? What are the anomalies to the typical?

This is a curiosity question, not a gotcha question. There is no hidden agenda other than clarification for correcting a possible misconception I have.

Great question - I usually take $20-30 with me also, as I'm totally unsure of how the paying thing will go also with different guys. Perhaps there's a good way of saying something when actually setting up the date to put our minds at ease on this?

Good golly miss molly!!! You men would really spend that much???!!

Amazing. I would never expect or ask a man to spend that much. I never order anything expensive in a restaurant. The last date I had we met at Starbucks and then had dinner. The total (I'm guessing since he paid) was $60 for the two of us. We had to pay for valet parking and he had a glass of wine with dinner, otherwise it would have been cheaper.

Once I had gotten to know a man and we were going out for a special occasion, I could understand shelling out $100 for the night. But it would have to be something really special. I never expect (nor would I ask) a man to spend that much. Wow. What an eye opener.

I'm with Shepherdess. Goodness gracious. The last date I went on...gee, he spent 7 bucks on me and I had fun.

Shaking head in bemusement. Gentlemen, you have truly opened my eyes. It makes sense to be extremely careful before asking somebody when you are talking about virtually a month's rent for a night out.

I am in agreement with many things said here so I have to chime in.

I think traditionally the man usually wants to pick up the tab, esp. on the first few dates but I am always prepared just in case. However, after awhile its always been my practice to trade picking up the tab or split the cost of a date. If the relationship is long-term I can't imagine the guy having to pick it up all the time.

There are many fun and creative things to do that don't have to have a high price tag, and cost cutting ways make it less expensive if you keep your eyes open.

If the date involves travel, I don't think its fair for him to pay that cost on his own. It can add up and it is just as much a benefit for the other person as it would be me!

I can't imagine wanting a guy to spend $100 on a simple date. Maybe if it was a REALLY special occasion it would be OK, but that's an awful lot to spend on food. I'm far more interested in the company I'm keeping, and probably won't even remember what I ordered at the restaurant. Flowers are nice, but if the guy causes himself financial hardship to buy them, well...I don't like them that much!

ts: someone pretending to be me just cause I aient sticking my tongue out at you anymore? :goofball:

I agree there's lots to do that would be less $ than the standard dinner/movie date. Course, I'm partial to the date from "Hitch" with the jet skis. Who's got jet skis?
