I was just wondering... why is it appropriate for a guy to post shirtless photo of himself? I know that there are different standards for men and women, but we are all sexual beings (because that is how God made us). There are some girls who struggle with pornography and the sight of a guy with no shirt could cause her to stumble.

There is so much emphasis put on girls to be modest so as not to cause our Christian brothers to stumble. When I lived in the dorms I had to attend a mandatory modesty meeting twice a month, going over the same things, whereas the guys only had one meeting the entire five years I was there. Shouldn't the modesty thing go both ways?

As a guy, it is pretty rough seeing girls pages that are filled with pictures of them in revealing outfits. I know personally, I wish they would stop. In the sense of fairness, I think guys should try to be modest as well so as not to cause someone else to stumble. The Bible takes a dim look on those who cause other believers to stumble.

Well, personally, I think it reflects on the guy's character. Not judging anyone, but I think it's tasteless, something you would usually expect on "Cops" or one of those shows on Tru TV. As you all know, I dwell amongst the banjo-pickers down here in the sticks and its a common occurence to see shirtless guys wondering around Walmarts but you wouldn't expect to come across them on a Christian site.

My dad was a redneck like me and it wasn't unusual to see him remove his shirt when he was outside working around the house on a warm day, but he would never go out that way in public. He taught us that not only was it disrespectful to women, but undignified and tacky.

Of course, we are all beautiful creatures created in God's image and the human body is nothing to be ashamed of, but there's a time and a place for everything.

I'm reminded of a time when I was, oh, probably about 14. My best friend (also 14) and her brother (15) and I were exploring their woods and creek. Anyway, we decided to build a mud-and-stick dam across the creek; at some point, he managed to get badly splashed and ended up with a very wet and muddy t-shirt. My friend ran back to the house to get him a dry shirt while he and I continued our dam building project. When she got back, he made both of us turn around and close our eyes while he changed his t-shirt! I thought he was being ridiculous at the time, but now I think that he was probably just trying to preserve his own dignity and keep us gals from feeling embarrassed...or maybe he just didn't want us to see exactly how puny and skinny he was!!!

I think it goes both ways. You see a person showing of large sections of skin and you have to ask yourself, "why are they wearing/not wearing this?" Isn't very often that you can come up with a vain-less answer. Now, don't get me wrong...I've actually done it before:dunce::laugh:, not on a christian site though...like that makes it better? I've seen the errors of my ways however:laugh:. Young and proud:rolleyes:. I just never knew I guess. Women always claimed not to have the same problems as men...but now I don't think that's true, not from what I've seen. Women "lust" just like men do, and christian men have the same responsibility as christian women to be modest. And it shouldn't even have to be about "protecting" the opposite sex from "lusting". It should be about YOU. It should be about being humble and denying SELF. Showing off your various body parts is all about PRIDE...and pride is a horrible thing. Men and women lusting after each other is usually a side-effect of an egotistical and self-serving attitude in the "lust-inducer". Not saying you can't dress nice...but you know what I mean, no need to be overtly trying to bring attention to yourself.
