I am considering getting a tattoo of scripture and would like to know your (men) point of view on the matter. Not for approval but my own FYI.

Thanks for posting this question. I have been considering getting a small tattoo too that will remind me that I am saved by grace, everyday. I feel that I need it because it's so easy to get caught up in the busyness of life, achievements and everyday struggles. I want something that will remind me every waking day that life is a gift from the Lord and that He's in control. That realization always keeps me humbled and put things in the perspective of walking and living by faith.

It's good to hear some thoughts from the gentlemen. I'll probably try henna first, as suggested.

Thanks.

First of all, I would explore why you want to get a tattoo and specifically the one you mentioned. I think it depends on your attitude and outlook on life. If you're someone that doesn't care what others may think about you, then by all means, go for it.

However, if you are someone that does care what others might think, I would put more thought into it. You can argue all you want, but tattoos do NOT make a woman look classy or elegant. Many women couldn't care less if they look classy or elegant, and for those women, again I say go for it. Personally, I don't find them attractive. I do care what image I put forth and how others perceive me, so I would never get one. In this competitive world we live in, I don't need or want any strikes against me whether it be for a job offer or a date!

My own personal opinion is this....

Remember the scripture I Corinthians 7:5, The wife hath not power of her won body, but the husband, and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.

"Scripturally" God is the authority of an unwed woman but only after she weds her husband her become her authority.

This is sound doctrine. Adam had no authority over Eve until God, Himself, declared it as part of her punishment for disobedience, and I Deut. God even gives respect to the husband to disallow a vow a wife has made to Him, if the husband was not present to hear it or was unaware of it when she made it.

My point here is, the decision of getting a tattoo is not solely at your discretion even if you are single and unmarried for God is your authority if you are unmarried and your husband is your authority if you are, but consider this as well, because if you are unmarried and at some point want to marry, I think it is extremely important to be aware that having a tattoo narrows the field of future potential marriage prospects. For me, personally, If God were to lead you to me as the mate He intended for me, and you had a tattoo, it would be very difficult to accept God's will for my life and yours, I might add, because, like God intended marriage to be for life, a tattoo is for life as well and is a deal breaker even if it is scripture. Now, my brother is just the opposite. He doesn't mind at all, and the same is true for all men, some don't mind, and others do. So, I would pray very much before I got a tattoo, which I personally consider defiling the Holy Spirit's temple, because the scriptures also say to offer our bodies a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God. So, as I mentioned before, because you are a Christian, the decision of getting a tattoo, or not, is not solely at your discretion.

i think that a woman's beauty can't be improved with ink, knowing that a beauty is in the eye of the beholder.the person has their own choices and likes or dislikes, who am i to say what a person should do. BUT the word of God is tatooed on the inside of my heart. and I know the tats started when Egyptians put their signature or brand on their slaves, but everybody has their own personality that's the beauty that God gives us.:glow:
