So what do you guys want to hear if a girl sends you a message first? What would help you start a conversation?

And what happens when a guy first sends you a hi and you respond with a hi and then nothing......... Guys when you send a hi do you expect more than a hi.

That depends on a lot of variables.

For example, if it's the "right" one, all I need is one wink and I'm on it like a lazer, man.

If she doesn't say it with her eyes, she isn't speaking my language.

There has to be a reason you are contacting this person...right? Well...that would be a great opener...that reason. Such as "Hi, I was looking at your profile and I really liked what you said about ______ and was hoping we could talk." Whatever caught your eye -- Looks -- History -- Wants -- Desires... That should be the opening. And if he (or she) feels a mutual attraction then well you're "off to the races" (whatever that means). And also consider how often they might be on here. It may be a while before they even get to see your message. Some people may only go online just once a week or even less. The one thing I have to stress is BE YOURSELF!!! Hope this helps.

A lot of good suggestions on here from pretty much everyone. I've got those 'hi' messages from people too if that's all you're going to say just wink. It says about the same to me. Of course I've also sent many very thoughtful messages that never get a reply. The more thoughtful the more it makes me sad to not even get a 'no thanks don't want to talk to you'. So yeah to the gals who say you don't get a reply I feel ya.

Oh and something that would help start conversation is if people talked a bit about their oddities in their profiles. I say plenty to start a conversation about, perhaps too much. Not everyone does though.

A lot of times I send a message to a guy not to get there attention but I message because I found there profile interesting or I think they are a good Christian. But it hurts sometimes that I send them a long message and no response so I guess my message is boring or I'm boring or they are not interested to me. But I like it more when they don't reply when I message them than they message back saying, "sorry but you're not my type" or saying "sorry I'm not interested to you." That's hurt you know. :/

Unfortunately being on sites like these leaves you subject to insensitivity. By even creating a profile, you're putting yourself out there, being vulnerable. However, you need to know that rejection does not even offer a bit of insight on your worth as a person, whatsoever. They don't know you. I know its hard to be unaltered by comments like that, but you cannot take it personally. I'm sorry to hear about your experiences and wish you best of luck (:
