I must ask, REAL ... or FAKE??
Posted : 8 Sep, 2014 05:35 PM

On this site, I've been asked 3 times now whether or not I'm a "Real" person. My question is, what on earth is it that would make you believe i were a robot or somebody else? o__o Lol

Is there something on my profile that just screams "nope, she's definitely a phony! A big fat phony!" LoL!

If there is, please let me know. (v__v ')

If not, then is there a running fad of guys being fooled on here by fake profiles? (I know catfishing is a concern when meeting others online, but is it to the extent where someone would instantly be suspicious before even taking the time to get to know the person first??)

(and Thank you so much for taking the time to read this posted concern of mine. :} *bows politely* )

Oh goodness.. then I'm certainly in trouble lol. I use 'dear' often in my writing when addressing people I'm not close enough with to call "doll" or "sweetheart".

This all started when I was in high school and couldn't remember anybody's name! So i just started using 'hun' and 'darlin' because I could always recognize a familiar face, but the names just never stuck. =__=' heh..

I'd love to know if there was a study that put a term for that, for being able to recognize faces really well (even if you met only once), but just not able to hold on to the persons name(even if they said it three dang times). lol ^__^

Oh I see you know I have the same issue. I sometimes recognize people I rang up at Rite Aid a decade ago but someone's name forget it. Not sure if it has a name or not actually, but it ought to right? As a friend said once, when you first meet someone there's so much else to pay attention to like what they're like, personality, details that are far more important than what their name is.

Actual first message from a Nigerian scammer: "Alright dear. You give me confidence and I am happy chatting with you. >email address<"

Pop quiz, what's the absolute first thing everyone notices about a stranger when first meeting them?

Do most scammers go on and on about how honest they are?

I just got a message from a girl claiming to be in one major US city but asking me to text her at an area code in another, far removed from the first. And ... her profile of about 2 "sentences" had "truthful" or "honest" or some variant of those words 6 times. She did have some good-looking photo to claim as hers ... so she may just get a lot of guys texting.

I think one did in my experience. For the most part though they have not said much (Nigeria) and said a lot (Ukraine) about how they were after true love etc. and the message for the most part could have been sent to anyone at all, in other words it wasn't all that personalized to me. However yes love and trust was brought up.

Mr. Mountain (lol, sorry, made me giggle), I do believe you and your friend are quite right. It's true, I pay attention to their eye contact, what their facial expression says, i want to make sure i speak appropriately and not take up too much of their time if they look like they really aren't in the mode for a conversation. :p You can tell when someone wants to speak and when they're confused like "why are you talking to me? o_0" Lol

Ugh, i really wish there was a term for such a condition lol T__T Nearly half the nation would have it. :p

Hoosier, ahhh i might say that person definitely raises suspicion. I dont mean to judge off limited information, but at the very least, they can't be too serious about a genuine connection if they're only putting 2 sentences and are already trying reeeeally hard to skooch on close to you lol. (and aparently skooch isn't a word =___= LoL oy)

When someone on here is quick to say 'i enjoy your profile...oh you are so great! ... oh i couldn't get you off my mind last night, i think about you all the time! oh you're so wonderful and loving, how i'd love to have you' me: 'oooooookaaaay sir, it's only been 3 days o__O ... and this is only your 3rd message to me...i..i think i gotta go now.. *slowly exits, stage left* '

It's a shame that we have to deal with scammers, but Satan is everywhere, even in church, so why not here? It's so easy to come from our flesh when it's about dating & the flesh is Satan's domain!

In addition to all the clues listed in this thread, I'm always suspicious when a guy lists his education as Masters/Post Grad but can't put together a simple sentence in his profile or in a message.

I also noticed that genuine people tend to post more than one photo. Anyone else notice that scammers only post a single picture?

I have eliminated 80% of the fakers by restricted the age range & foreign countries from being able to message me. I did meet a person who seemed nice, from Norway, before I entered the restrictions, but I figure the limitation was worth it to not have to deal with the phonies.

I still get young guys, mostly foreigners viewing my profile, but they can't get to me, ha ha!

True people of ill intent are everywhere. It's one reason I like the film Doom, it points out that it's what's in one's heart that matters. The corrupt become worse when given power and the good sometimes use the strength for good.

In my experience the fake people have all had several pictures. Usually they will include something sexy or a few pics like that. Not always however so it's hard to make generalizations. Of course this is female fake people I'm talking about here and you're probably talking about guys.

Yeah having a graduate degree you have to write quite a few papers and use good grammar and spelling so that's definitely a clue. Another one can be if the person's profile seems to be passable English but when they start messaging you it's much worse or different. For the most part I've noticed the female scammers will be young and say 'age doesn't matter' but then that's not always a clue because a few of the friends I've made on here who are real let guys any age message them and don't mention age as a criterion.

it is easy to spot a fake profile.

visit one, save the picture on your desktop.

go google image then click the little camera on the right of the search bar. browse your picture. voila.

usually if the profile is fake, the picture will appear on several other websites.

this site is filled with fakes.

This site is filled with fakes...well well well...what a lot of tosh...yes there are some...filled with?...tosh...it would appear that there are a lot of people on this site who run fear filled because there are a number of people who are either fear mongers or enjoy creating a lot of drama...Are there some scammers? Yes there are some...There are also a lot of lonely people who are essentially looking for someone else to share their life with on this site...that is where the emphasis should lie...making healthy choices where fear is not an over riding factor...just another opinion.

Ah, Deb, Awakened, those are quite useful ways to spot a fake. I completely forgot about reverse searching an image through Google. o.o

I'm not sure who I've come across that could have been a fake or not, but i certainly get a weighted amount of people from Africa more than anywhere else. The moment the talk goes straight to marriage, pet names, and mentions of love, I'm quick to be frank and just be on my way. :\

Now i just use this site to find friends instead of "looooove" lol. It's hard enough to find those you vibe with, let alone be matched up with someone who's actually evenly yoked. :[
