I believe there's an important question that needs to be posed to Christian men.

Why is it when you get the oppurtunity for an amazing vacation in Rome, granted it's a beautiful city, do you stand yourself right in front of the roman Colleseum and snap a picture of you smiling?!

You know they KILLED us there, right?!

You might be skewing history a bit yourself there, SBD. The Native Americans were not all nice and gentle, they had their part in murdering, razing, and torturing the settlers in the most barbaric ways.

@DHTM, thanks for the info. I stand corrected in that it is evident that a few Christians were killed at the Coliseum. However, there are too many arguments on either side to be sure that it was a regular practice. Your reference implies that Christians were killed by the boatload at the Coliseum. However, I doubt that there were ever boatloads of Christians in Rome at any given time. I also found that people who refused to worship in the Roman temples or to give homage to Caesar were arrested and sometimes killed as Christians whether they were or not. There is also the argument that the Coliseum was made the object of myths by the Medieval Church because it was a commonly known landmark and in a well known city. So, I stand corrected in that there were Christians killed in Rome and I will admit that I misspoke by saying none were killed there. However, there is not substantial evidence that they were killed by the "boatload" there either.

As for the Native Americans, regardless of the fact that the majority were killed by disease brought to the continent by the Europeans, they were outgunned by a higher technology and greater force than they were capable of combating. On the other hand, it is not uncommon in the course of the history of the world for entire people groups to be conquered or eliminated by a greater power. My point is that, for the most part, those who are responsible for the wholesale slaughter of Native Americans in places like Wounded Knee and Sand Creek were under the leadership of men claiming to be Christian or at least known to be Christian, Thomas Jefferson among them.

@blue eyes, Yes, they can certainly be considered Christians because Christianity is the religion of their choice and the religion they claimed. If they are claiming to be Christians and not living out the representation of the Spirit of Christ then we can say they are not true followers of Jesus but they were most certainly Christians. I will agree that not all of them were Christians but considering that the reason for the first Europeans was to pursue religious freedoms they certainly did all they could to persecute the heathen that did not know their God and apparently did not have the same right to religious freedom as the invaders who presumed upon themselves the land and life they claimed God gave them the right to possess.

They fantasize about the gladiators I suppose, the columns of supporting phalussi might probably subconsciously re-enforce a man's natural admiration for architecture as well. No one likes to think of ancient history anyway especially when bloodsport is still illogically regarded as honourable by most.
