Ok, we all know that now a days more people are accepting of different cultures/ethnicities which is awesome. But what I have been noticing over the years is that more men are looking into being with someone from another race, but for the wrong reasons.
Allow me to explain:
It been hard for me to find someone (Yes... Christians!) who would go for me and not how I am built physically. Being of mixed race and the skin color that I am, I tend to get STEREOTYPED both physically and mentally because of women in music videos who are usually of color and Spanish shows/soap that are all about curves.
Believe it or not, I have a couple of friends in the same boat feeling self-conscious about themselves because they are woman of faith and can't seem to find men who would appreciate what is truly important, a woman of God, values, family. What ever happened to the good old days when that was the least important?!
Is there any women out there who are skinny,curvy, tall, short who feel my pain???
@Apostelle... did I say that? Sorry. What I meant is that, for seeking a spouse, I think of seeking a Christian (who is also available, and of the complimentary gender) as priority one. I personally regard the other things I mentioned as secondary, at best.
I don't know if I would marry someone of the description you gave. I don't know what evidence I would think I'd need to be convinced of her allegiance to God. I thank and praise God that I am not to know a human's heart like he does, even when I think it might be useful.
I agree with this that you seem to imply; prostitution, drunkenness - maybe even huge lack of regard for one's health - are far from godliness (please correct me if you don't imply it). On the other hand, I hold that genuine desire and action each toward changing those things in one's own life for Christ's sake are miracles unique to his followers. Surely He can save, and do this, for anyone.
There are so many reasons for why this happens, but as far as stereo typing is concerned. I would say it is the media in all its forms.
I watched a documentary on on two journalists from Cuba. One stayed in Cuba and the other defected to the USA. After 5 years they were reunited at a conference. The one who stayed in Cuba stayed pretty much as he was and dedicated to his beliefs. The defector, got divorced, lost sight of his original goals and pretty much did a 180 turn about of who he was when he left Cuba.
In Cuba there is very, very little commercial advertising. And well, in America it is all about what you can sell to make money. The defector was overwhelmed with the visual stimuli of neon signs and commercials. He couldn't stay true to himself because there was too much pressure to over indulge in the excesses of life! :devil:
Being new in my Born Again Faith and in the church I now attend, I took some time to look around the congregation at church yesterday to just observe the people while they were worshiping. And being single I was also paying attention to the single ladies and how they were acting as well. Were they out going in there responses? Did they sing with enthusiasm? Were they happy and Spirit filled?
There was one woman who was sitting close by and I could see her face and the excitement she felt showed through. And I was thinking to myself how attractive she was because of her confidence in the Lord. I could see she was filled with the Spirit! There was nothing overstated about her looks, but the beauty from within her shined through to increase her physical attraction in my eye's.
I was doing an exercise of sorts on what attracted me most to a woman. In my PAST days it was all about physical attraction and attributes. They say" men are visual" and "women are more interested in substance". It is what is on the inside that makes the outside attractive.
So I was trying to see women from the inside out for a change. And in so doing change my past of failed relationships into a more fruitful future in learning through the Word about what it means to Love and care for someone in a more Christian way.
I now believe that if I live my life in the Truth of the Word and stay focused on my Spiritual Journey I will attract a woman of Faith who is strong in her walk with Jesus. Because one with less desire to serve the Lord our God would not be interested in being with me.
