What's with the wink?
Posted : 25 Feb, 2012 06:12 AM

Hi, guys! I'm kinda new here, so I'd appreciate a little help as I'm not sure about the social etiquette around here...

What do guys expect from sending a wink? I mean, am I supposed to wink back? I'm not really sure if I should, or even if I want to. Sometimes I just send a thank you message.

Would it be rude if I don't do anything?

Thanks in advance for the help. God bless! :glow:

Obviously I've been brought up differently, but if someone winked at me or said "hi" then I'd feel obliged to respond (even if it's with disgust). It's not about whether I owe it to them or not, it's about being a part of society that works on the basis of treating others with respect, even if we don't know them personally or feel they haven't earned it yet. I'm amazed and saddened that people think it's okay to dispense with even the most basic courtesy of acknowledgement. We reap what we sow.

And why would you be creeped out by somebody downloading your photo? Be honest, what do you really think they might do with it?

Yes, I'm in an argumentative mood tonight!:boxing:

A wink shows a spark of interest. It is a bit like flirting. It is the closest approximation to flirting that you can get on the internet. Finding someone on the internet is much more difficult than finding someone in the real world. On here, all we have are "winks" and smileys to show intent. Unless you intent to narrate your messages like the script of a movie.

There is nothing fake about a wink. A wink is like a calling card. It says, I saw your profile and liked what I saw, read, and is an invitation to reciprocate. Of course, like in the real world, you have the choice to not return the wink or send a message if you are not interested.

Of course, for most American women, manners and flirting are alien concepts.

And that's why you're single.

No, Im single because the woman I am looking for has to be of a certain...quality. I am, how shall I put this...picky. I know how a lady is supposed to act. The main word of that statement is "lady". Just because someone is female does not make her a lady. Unfortunately, the vast majority of secular minded women are of the "I am woman, hear me roar" personality type. Personally, I think those type of women are actually of the "I am woman, hear me bark" personality type. I am not a liberal or "progessive" type of man. I know a man's duty and I execute that duty to the fullest. I am not one of these "he-she" types that seem to populate todays culture. Unlike most of the so-called "modern men" I do not squat to void my bladder.

I also treat ladies as they are supposed to be treated. But if a woman does not act like a lady, I treat her the way she deserves. Women who think abortion is a right and that homosexuals are ok, I treat as the scum of the earth. I make no bones about it that liberals disgust me.

Whilst I may agree with what you're looking for and what you're against, I'd refrain from calling people scum of the earth. There's no shades of gray when it comes to sin in God's eyes - just black and white - and measured against that standard, we're all scum.

yup. i totally agree. we're only made right with God through faith in what Jesus did for us on the cross (Romans 3:22-24). Grace, after all, means UNDESERVED favor :glow:

Ok so here's my question, a guy sent me a wink but that was it. No private message or anything. So I checked out his profile and sent him a wink back. So then he sent me another wink but still no message or anything, so what's up with that? Is he just flirting but not really wanting to pursue anything? Even a friendship?

I understand what youre saying, dkj255, and I agree. There are no big or little sins. But a tree is known by its fruits. If a tree is bad, you cut it down and discard it. The Bible often speaks of those who support others in their sin, and they are condemned as much as the sinner. It is the duty of Christians to not only avoid sin, but to avoid even the very appearance of sin. The Bible also says that if you spread the word, and they do not heed the word, you are to kick "the dust from your feet" and to not "cast your pearls before swine". It seems to me that we are told that those who endorse and support others in their sin are considers swine.

Liberals, because they support homosexuals and the murder of the unborn, and do not heed the Word of God, are swine.

devotedandtrue,

I agree with dkj and kay cat as well. I do understand that you are against abortion and homosexuality and so are we. But as a Christian, you don't need to call them scum of the earth. We are all sinners and need forgiveness each day. Pray for them so they can come to know Jesus, as Lord and Savior, and love them, as Jesus loves us..
