Have you ever been "slain in the spirit," fainted when the Pastor lays hands on you in a prayer line (usually)?

I know for a fact some ppl fake it, because they admit it. They say they felt like they "had to pass out" because all the other ppl around them did.

Of course, I believe others have experienced this for real.

So, my question to everyone who has been slain in the spirit, how was it? Explain your experiences please. This topic always intrigues me.

Thanks in advance for your thoughtful responses!:glow:

I've never experienced anything close to that. I won't say that it's all fake, but I do worry that many people are much more focused on seeking the gifts of the Spirit than the Giver himself.

Tulip89, thanks. I haven't actually experienced it either, but I know some people who have. I've gotten different answers from different people about what the experience entailed.

Once again, thanks for your response!

I believe that it is a real phenomenon. I have felt the lightheadedness from His anointing once and fought against it because I didn't want to fall. The Holy Spirit doesn't ever force Himself and I was able to stay on my feet.

I think it happens a lot in black churches because we are highly emotional and its acceptable and even encouraged to express what you're feeling in a very physical way.

In my mind, I've questioned the "fallin out" ppl do like on Benny Hinn and such, but because I don't know for sure, I leave it alone.

I've been to highly anointed, services where the presence of God was really strong. While the fake stuff can mimic what is true, getting a true touch from God, I think, is very easy to recognize.

Nope, I've never been "Slain in the Spirit." I do know that I'm filled with the Spirit, though!

I teach at a school affiliated with the International Pentecostal Holiness Church, and people here do believe that they have been "Slain in the Spirit." I don't think they are all lying or faking it, but I also know how hard some of them have to work to get all hyped-up and emotional so that they can speak in tongues, "fall out", faint, etc. When they can't achieve that for some reason, they start to doubt their salvation, or fear that God is upset with them, or worry that other people will think they aren't spiritual enough...so yes, some of them admit to faking it.

I have, but I think it was just psychological. Big loud crazy guy walks up to you and says "BOOM" and I see everybody else in the line go down one by one when he does this so yeah, got light headed, and passed out. I'm pretty sure I was out for only a couple of seconds, and then I just got up like "huh.." and walked on. I will come out and say I do doubt it since there's no Biblical reference to it anywhere and it's probably a marketing stunt by whatever evangelist is in town and perpetuate a group trance since nobody knows what it means or how it is beneficial. That's what I think.

1babygirl, I couldn't agree with you more.

I do believe it is a real thing, but I know there are ppl who fake it, too. I'm just so interested in it. Can't even tell you why. Maybe because I haven't experienced it.

Now yeah, I've had the Spirit on me so strong I've cried uncontrollably, spoke in tongues for hours and felt Him move through me, etc., but I've never been slain before.

What you said was so funny and true!

bcpianogal, that was very well said! I guess the latter of what you said it what I'm worried about. I don't want ppl to question their salvation or relationship with the Lord if they don't faint. It made me question a lot, too, at one point.

Thanks for your response!

Years back when I was in my mid teens, I used to go a pentecostal (AoG I think it was) church young-peoples group and when this became news they did a session of praying for us teenagers and I remember when they came up to me, they said a few lines and tried pushing me backwards. I didn't go. They tried again and again to push me back but everything in my spirit was telling me this was wrong and I refused to fall back. They gave up and moved on to the next person.

I believe that if God wanted me over, He'd have done it without needing people pushing me.

Many years later I brought this up with our pastor (a wise, but very abrasive personality) and he responded that in the Bible, when the Spirit made people fall it was usually face-down in worship - only face up when He struck them dead!

Because of that experience (and a few others), I left that church and have only returned on one occasion.

@bcpianogal:

It seems to be quite common amongst pentecostal churches and Christians in my experience. I was even told that if I can't speak in tongues (I have only once) then I couldn't have the Spirit in me - and the implication may even have been that I wasn't really saved.

This is a dangerous and false teaching. They forget that the Bible says "to SOME the gift of healing, to OTHERS the gift of preaching, and to yet MORE, the gift of tongues" (or similar, I'm quoting from memory but the gist is correct). No point getting all worked up if you don't have xyz gift because God gives as He chooses according to His purpose.
