How do you decorate for Christmas?

Do you go ALL OUT ... or decorate less elaborately? Do you decorate the inside AND outside of your place or just the inside?

So far, I've just decorated the inside of my place every year with a tree and a few other decorations.

Have you put your decorations up yet? I still have to put mine up ... I'm behind on this joyful fun of Christmastime this year.

Since I'm gonna be out of town, I'm not decorating my place this year. When I had my "spread," I would go all Griswald and put gobs of icicle lights and pine wreaths on my mile long cedar split rail fence and the roof line of my house. I'd have 2 trees; 1 in the foyer, another in the family room. Usually Spruce and the other artificial.

I just got my tree this evening after work. My daughter put lights on it, the multi colored, it's a noble fir. About 7 feet high.

She decorated the living room, it looks cute :)

I have a nativity scene that was my grandmas too.

looks festive in here

I have this candle holder that I LOVE that ALWAYS gets put out. Anything else is hit or miss, though I bought a ton of decorations when I moved in here 6+ years ago. The candle holder is a round "plate" of stained glass, about 6" in diameter. The pieces of stained glass form the nativity scene. Behind the glass is the little cup where you put the candle. It's very beautiful =)

My mom doesn't like a lot of decoration, so even though I begged and pleaded every year she never let me decorate anything inside or outside except for the Christmas tree. At some point during high school I decided not to ask her and just taped things all over the windows! One of the neighbor boys helped me set up lights on the bushes just outside of my house. During college when I didn't go home for Thanksgiving I would get so bummed about not being able to help with the decoration of the tree, so my roommate bought me a tiny tree and lights and a million window decorations. Even when she wasn't my roommate she always helped me decorate my dorm during Christmas! I just put up like one or two Santa faces in my apartment tonight, but since China doesn't really celebrate Christmas it doesn't really feel like Christmas. And the fact that it hasn't been very cold.

Just inside. A tall tree with lights and lots of ornaments - special ones that have been purchased or given over the years. I have a small village a friend gave me with light-up houses, trees, etc. that I put out. Little 'doo-dads' to place around the house -- snowmen, snow globes, etc. The Christmas cards get displayed and I have a separate metaL "tree" so I can put all my penguin ornaments in one place. :goofball:

Steve, I haven't seen my ornaments in three years. I'll have to count them once I get them all unpacked and displayed this weekend. :goofball:

I mostly decorate inside. I live way out in the country at the very end of a cul-de-sac, so very few people would get to see any decorations that I might put out...so I don't bother.

But inside is another story! My family always cuts a Virginia Pine from a Christmas tree farm. We use lots of those big colored lights on it, and one or two strands of the little white lights to make it more sparkly. Then the ornaments go on. My mom started a tradition when I was born: every Christmas, she gives each of her children a special ornament; it might represent a specific event in our lives, a special vacation we took, or just be something really unique that she found. With all of those ornaments, plus all of the others that we've acquired over the years, I think we all probably have enough ornaments of our own to decorate a whole tree, so we have to pick and choose our favorites! Of course, my mom has tons of ornaments too, so she picks her favorites to put on the tree as well. We finish off the tree with an angel topper that my mom made years ago, and then we hang icicles all over it. The tree skirt is a really pretty quilted one that my grandmother made for us several years ago.

The other thing that ALWAYS is put out is the nativity scene. My dad made the stable when I was a toddler, and it even has (or had) a star that really lit up! The figurines are very non-destructible. They bounce if you drop them. Yes, that was intentional, since my sisters and I were always allowed to play with the nativity scene when we were kids!

Depending on how industrious I feel, I might put garland and lights on the stair rail inside. Haven't done that yet this year, but I'm thinking I might do it tomorrow. We usually put out a few Christmas candles and a few little knick-knacks.
