My first time to encounter the saying. Does it mean, one is too spiritual that he is no longer good to be among those alive on earth?

Can this be true? I think not. Maybe if one is already dead, then one is purely spiritual and no earthly good and must be with Abraham and other dead believers.

Should it be true? I think could not be. We should be physical, mental, emotional, spiritual as I think God created us to be.

I think the saying applies to how we should strive to live for Gods glory. To continually ask, does it/this glorify God?

To be so spiritually minded that we could/should not easily conform to the pattern of this world.

I think it can be true, but shouldn't be. I've known people who supposedly focus so much on God and heaven that they forget that God put them on the EARTH for a purpose, and as a result, they neglect His work here. I say "supposedly" because I believe that if they are really focused on God, then they will be unable to overlook their responsibilities here.

It's also an excuse for laziness... "I am so dedicated to focusing on God that I don't have time to witness or volunteer at church." A very bad excuse, in my opinion.

Actually, that expression doesn't make any sense!!! As the others have been saying, Chuck, it means different things, perhaps, to different people, but to me it's STUPID and not of God to be that way, IF you are!!! WHY would anyone WANT to be "of no earthly good" if they were "spiritually-minded" and called by Jesus to spread the Good News of salvation throughout this world? This expression probably was coined by someone who didn't know Christ as Lord and Savior, in defense of their world view as opposed to the "Christian world view", don't cha think? ... It would be interesting to find out the origin of this expression somewhere ...

I feel like I don't have a lot of worldly ambition because I don't see the good in going crazy just to make money. It's just not important to me. I don't know if it's laziness or "spiritual", but I'm motivated to work hard, I just don't care how much you pay me, lol. I miss the good ol' days where hard work actually paid off, and everything was simple.

I've always taken it to mean that a person is so caught up in their own spirituality that they are of no practical use to those that need them here on earth...especially spouse, children, family, etc.

I think it can also apply with to those that are so wrapped up in spiritual matters and study that they are making no practical effort to help those that are in need...widows, orphans, homeless, poor, hurting, lost, etc.

Great Question 2Sparrows!! :glow:

My take on this saying is; one is so spiritually minded, he/she

has become legalistic, thus, no longer useful on earth as he/she

repels peoples hearts rather than attract them in order to successfully

with love share the message of salvation and freedom in Christ Jesus.

Blessings,

This saying that I saw on a church sign goes well with the topic:

"What on earth are you doing for Heaven's sake?"
