Per Twosparrows' wish for more manly conversation, what would you buy if you were looking for a handgun to use for concealed carry?

Personally, I've always had a thing for Sigs, and the P220 Compact makes an excellent case for itself. You pay the price for a Sig Sauer though. More realistically, I'm probably going to go with the Springfield XD .40 Compact. I like .45 ACP, but a .40 still has a good bit of stopping power, and everyone I've known who bought an XD says they're nearly unjammable.

Sigs are sweet guns made by people who take pride in their work. I knew they made a 9 and a 45 but the 40 is news to me. I agree about the 40 as I think the 45 might have to much kick for a smaller lighter gun buy never have shot one do idk. I just finished a ccw class but still need finish filling on the application. No guarantees, this is calif...lol. I have decided on a Ruger SP-101 for a winter and truck gun. But need to find something I like that is smaller, lighter and easier to conceal for summer. I like larger caliber revolvers but for a summer gun I think there is mo choice except a auto.

Haha wiseguy

Sig doesn't make a .40 to my knowledge. That's part of why I like the Springfield.

The Ruger is a beautiful little guy, but if something serious goes down, I want more than 5 rounds at my disposal.

Well, I have a Ruger for use when carrying concealed. However, I must confess the favorite is my old shotgun. There is just something so satisfying about that noise when the house is being broken in to.

And you know, a man looking into the face of a scared woman holding a shotgun loaded for bear....they leave. I never aim at anything I don't plan on killing or decimating so am not waving wildly nor evening pointing....but then again...

Elisa, I like you.

I have a former police woman's ankle piece. It's a 380mm 9 mil.

I purposely have not gotten a permit to carry cause I have a Madea attitude and I really don't want to shoot somebody's chile....unless absolutely necessary.:rocknroll:

You know Brothers and Sisters,

as someone that did "carryed" a piece, I have to bring up a point.

It is all well and good to call an "instrument of destruction" a

sweet gun(s) made by people who take pride in their work.

The Ruger is a beautiful little guy,

you at least have hollow points. 9mm isn't much

And to joke about the carnage that can be accomplish with them. My thought is what example are you giving to those that may be thinking about buying a piece?

Have any of you ever shot a person?

Have any of you ever been shot?

How about what Human Blood feels like on your skin?

The sound a person makes while dying?

How when adrenaline starts pumping through your body that you just might shoot anyone or anything that moves (including yourself or loved one).

How it takes Months and Months of Training to get someone to React (without thinking) at moments where Deadly Force is necessary?

In 1991, there were 211 million privately-owned firearms in the U.S., which then had a population of 252 million people. Of these firearms, about 71 million were handguns.

(Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), How Many Guns? ATF News Release FY-91-36, G.P.O., Washington, 1991.)

The long-term trend in both handgun production and criminal use has been away from manual revolvers and towards rapid-firing, semi-automatic pistols.

(Marianne W. Zawitz (BJS statistician), "Guns Used In Crime" (NCJ-148201), Bureau of Justice Statistics.)

The domestic production of pistols has doubled since 1980, while domestic production of rifles has fallen 40 percent, and shotguns 14 percent. In 1980, pistols made up less than 15 percent of total firearm production in the U.S.; by 1993, they had climbed to 40 percent.

(U.S. Firearms Production 1993, American Firearms Industry, March 1994, p. 41; and U.S. Firearms Production, American Firearms Industry, January 1995, p. 74.

This chart shows the Rise of both the Murder rate and Firearm sales in the U.S.:

Murder rate (per 100,000) and Firearm sales (millions of Dollars per)

Murder Firearm

Year Rate Sales

----------------------

1985 7.9 $1,548

1986 8.6 1,647

1987 8.3 1,667

1988 8.4 1,810

1989 8.7 1,777

1990 9.4 1,602

1991 9.8 1,859

1992 9.3 1,829

1993 9.5 2,095

Folkssome of us watch TV or Movies and see how easy it is to defend oneself or family or propertynot realizing just what it takes. Some of us also believe that we will act in a certain way when stuff happens.

You Will Not Know how you will react until that Moment happens!

If you want to own a piece for protection

(not just for sportyou know killing stuff that can not defend themselves),

join a police force or paramilitary unit orHey!...heres thoughtjoin the military! Then you can go and shoot people and get paid to do it!

Sorry folksowning a weapon is serious. I do not mean to come off as High handed. I just want you to think about what you are saying and how it may influence others.

I used to get indignant, but now only slightly irritated by the attempts of some to stifle & control others up in this piece.

If when someone states something that you don't agree with, why not just state your opinion without everybody else having to become your mental twin in order to be acceptable?

Should we all inbox those who want to control what's said before we post to make sure it's alright?

Whatever.

Tulip, no hollow points. Not really wanting to send no one to meet Jesus, just want to protect what's mine. If someone comes into my home whithout permission, they are takin' their chances though.:rocknroll:

I would get a .45 Colt 1911. I just like the "thinness" of the gun, and...it looks really cool. Right now I have a highpoint 9mm handgun, but no concealed carry yet.
