Posted : 17 Oct, 2010 06:46 AM Well, there is no exact timeline and this is something the couple ought to be praying about, of course. But... I would say that about a year from the time to couple is in a serious, exclusive relationship. Maybe a little longer... But I'd be wondering if the relationship was going anywhere if it hit that 2-year mark. However, my parents only dated for a month before getting engaged! They met on December 13, 1974, were engaged in mid-January, and then got married on August 30, 1975. And they're still together =) Post Reply

This gives each person an opportunity to see how their beloved lives in every season. Of course the bible doesn't specify and love stories like Rebecca and Issac where his servant found his wife and they married in a few days from the bible story of Ruth and Boaz where she was the initiator, to the story of Rachel where Jacob wait patiently for 14 years. No one can dictate that for the couple, the decision should be bathed with prayer and fasting and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Post Reply

A man can propose at anytime after the first date, but it would be wise to wait a year before marrying. Being engaged relieves some pressures in a relationship yet adds others. To be able to pull off a extremely short courtship and engagement requries two extremely special people (which most of us aren't ) and a extremely special relationship ( which most will never have) Post Reply

The important part is that the two have discussed where they have been, and what they expect of marriage. One can learn what they need to know in just a few months, and one can spend two years doing all kinds of fun stuff together and not really get to know each other. The key is not how much time you date before you get engaged, but how much you learn about each other before you do. Post Reply

I feel that at the bare minimum you need a year to really get to know the person. This is something that SHOULD last a lifetime after all. Post Reply
