... prefers my hair to be really long, should I keep it that way?

Right now it is about 3" above my waist and I'm thinking of cutting maybe about 6-7" off. I would never again cut it above my shoulders because then people tell me I look like Shirley Temple. And while I love Shirley Temple and, in fact, still watch "The Little Princess" every once in awhile, I don't really want my hair to resemble that of a child's. I want my hair to be sexy, not cute, if you know what I mean.

Also, I go back to school in 2 weeks and don't want my hair to look bad the 1st day. So, even though I'm really eager to chop off some swirly curls today (I cut my own hair!), I should probably wait until a week or so into school... just in case. Not that my hair looks bad when I cut it. I only messed up 1 time and that was years ago when I was still getting the hang out of. Now, I do a good job and people always want the name of my stylist =)

Chop-chop swirly curls in 3 weeks maybe? Or should I keep it growing because of my boyfriend's preference?

Well, as a guy, I really, really prefer long hair on girls (sorry-I meant "women"), but it's your hair though and you can do what you want, but maybe you and your fella can compromise a little.

1. Why do you have to have your hair look really good on your first day of school?

2. Do what makes you happiest. If leaving it a couple inches longer to make your boyfriend happier makes you happiest, do that. If you absolutely want it shorter, I'm sure he'll understand.

Mr. Tulip:

1. Well, when I was a college freshman back in 1997, I lived in the dorms and all of the girls were going crazy on the first day of classes w/ making sure their hair and everything else looked perfect... And I didn't feel that same pressure as a sophomore or junior really... But, now that I'm going back, I feel a little nervous about maybe not looking as pretty as all the freshman and younger women... And I know that's really vain and that I should not be comparing myself to other women, and I am really trying hard to stop the comparing thing, but it's hard. I don't want people to think I'm ugly.

2. Yes, he would understand if I cut it. It's not like he's telling me to not cut it or anything; I just know what his preference is. Maybe I'll just cut about 1/2 the amount off that I was thinking. It grows quickly anyway =)

The thing is... thinking ahead towards possibly marrying him someday, I'm wondering if keeping my hair the length my husband likes it best is part of being a submissive wife? And if it is, then I should practice that now because it's not like I'm suddenly just going to be able to change myself overnight after I get married. I have to prepare myself ahead so that I won't be a bad wife.

I dunno if it's necessarily a vanity thing, but I noticed all the girls looking good on the first day of school. I just assumed that they wanted to make a good impression. I didn't really think anything else of it, except it was enjoyable from just a visual perspective. The rest of the year they'd be wearing sweats and t-shirts, so it was like getting to go on a date but not having to actually go.

Most guys like long hair on a girl, but as long as its not a pixie cut (very few girls can pull that one off), we won't be complaining. I think you might be taking this submission thing a bit too far because this isn't about his headship; it's just a hair length. Sure, you should take his preferences into account, and maybe this is an issue where you don't fight it, but all relationships are a give-and-take kinda thing. I'd pay close attention to see if he is holding up his end of the deal (loving you as Christ loves the church). Guys can really get a head trip if they think a girl is slavishly obeying their whims.

I prefer women to have long hair. But, having had shoulder length hair myself (a long time ago), I know that it is not easy taking care of long hair. I can certainly understand the desire to cut it shorter.

My opinion? I would rather that my wife like her hair, so she can do what makes her happy. Just don't cut it short and then try to fish for compliments by asking me if I like it.

Pixy,

why dont you just trim it a couple inches. That's what I do...it gets to my waist and I trim a couple inches and clean up the layers n bangs.

It hardly gets noticed but I can tell and it's easier for me to handle.

Remember, beauty is on the inside and it radiates outwardly.

Pixy cut your hair! I too like longer hair on women but the truth is he likes you for you...I know he does because of the things you've told us on here and what you've told me in emails. Maybe not cut off 6-7 inches, but maybe 3-4. You might like it being a little shorter and it won't come as such a "culture shock" to him, haha! Be yourself...isn't that what you've always told me?!?!?! Later!~

Your not married yet, but it would be good practice to test his conflict style.
