love letter practice {part 1}

This is a fun little game that we can play over-and-over if you want!! :goofball:

I thought of it because of all the talk on here lately about not getting responses to messages...

Here's how it works:

x I type up a fake/pretend/sample profile.

x You menfolk read it and respond to it w/ a "first message."

x Us ladies get to offer you constructive criticism on your "first message."

x You guys learn some really helpful things about how to draft really awesome, quality messages to women that will yield sweet, wonderful replies!!!

The profile is below...

About Me

Hey there from Big Sky Country =) My name is Jane and I look really cute in a cowboy hat. So I'm told... ! I'm the sensitive type who probably cries a little too easily. This feels like a curse at times, but my friends enjoy the sympathy that stems from it, so it's also a blessing. I live with my sister in this kinda ghetto apartment, but we have fun together doing all the girly things that females like to do. I get really involved in my work sometimes and forget to come up for air. Perhaps I need someone to balance me out in that area... ? I go to church regularly and attend a Saturday morning women's Bible study. We're studying Esther right now and I'm getting SO much out of it! I really like dogs and hope to bring home a puppy to raise one of these days soon!!!

What I'm looking for is my best friend. I want someone I can talk with, laugh with, and cry with, even long after the initial sparks of romance are gone. I want to worship God with you, cook with you, serve in a soup kitchen with you, weed the flower beds with you, watch you pray, pray with you, maybe a make a couple of babies with you... with my jade green eyes and your sweet smile. I want to fall asleep against you late at night while watching movies and I want to wake up to the warmth of your body every morning. If you think you might be just the cowboy to fill that role, then send me a message. But my IM NEVER works. So please send a message. And no winks. I don't like winks.

First Date

I like picnics. And looking at stars while laying on my back in an open field, fingers laced together with a sweet cowboy. And long walks. And ever longer talks. And thoughts of first kisses. But no kissing now!! You'll have take me out again and again for that =)

Hey Jane,

I think your career is fascinating! Where are some of the coolest placest you have been while on a dig? I'm glad to know you're in a fun bible study and that you are learning a lot from it. Those kind of bible studies are the best! Well Jane I hope you have great day and hopefully I'll hear back from you. God Bless! Later!~

Okay, that was hard!!! Hahah!! It kind of felt like throwing your soul out there for everyone...Weird?!?!? Anyway, how did I do?

Okay StormCountry here goes. I thought your response was pretty cool. You showed that you read her profile and asked her a question about her work that could lead to more open ended conversation. The only thing I might have added was something like this:

Currently I live on a river and would love to take you on an easy float down the river and sing and play for you while you enjoy the scenery. And when we find a great spot we can dock for that picnic you mentioned.

One other little input - I read your profile and maybe you might want to post one of your other photos as your main pic. I say that because when I looked at your profile I saw so many other pictures of you that clearly show your face and the one of you on the sofa is really hard to see YOU!

Hope this wasn't too harsh. I gotta say if I were Jane I would be checking you out! Love in Christ, Dani

Storm- I think that's a good first message actually! Nothing like most of the ones I've gotten... lol One thing I would recommend, though, is maybe saying something about yourself that's not in your profile... something that would connect the 2 of you and indicate that you have something in common. And maybe asking her 1 or 2 more questions... It sounds like Jane's family is really important to her, so that would be a good thing to ask a question about.

Dear Jane, what kind of artifacts do you deal with?

What is your favorite bible passage?

Do you have any pets? I have 3 cats.

Where have some of your digs been at?

I like the story of Joseph and his coat of many colors.

Have a good day.:waving:

Dennis

Thanks Pixy and Dani...that wasn't as bad as I thought it might be, haha!! I like to ask question so that the lady feels that I"m interested but I don't want to ask to many question to make feel like I'm crowding her too quickly...make sense or is that foolish? I also don't like to mention myself a whole lot b/c I don't want to come across like I'm using her interest as a lead in to "ME". Again...making sense or being foolsih? Please continue with any and all comments complaints or suggestions. Pixy this may not have been a bad post after all...

@Dennis- I personally think that 4 questions is too many. I think that 2-3 questions are good. And as I told Storm, I think it's good if you can mention something that shows what the 2 of you have in common... Something that helps her to understand the connection and to pique her curiosity about you. Also, I'd stay away from yes/no questions... Like your question about if she has any pets... If she doesn't, then all she can say is "no." That doesn't really spark any conversation.

@Storm- Yeah, it's difficult to know how many questions to ask, I guess. Like I said above, I think that 2-3 is a good #, but there may be other ladies who prefer less or more. Maybe some more ladies will jump in here and provide some input! =) Your reasoning makes total sense, though. Something you could say if you immediately think of a lot of questions is, "You've really piqued my curiosity and there is so much I want to know about you. But, I don't want to bombard you, so I'll just start out w/ a couple of questions and save the rest for later." I do understand what you mean about mentioning yourself. I've felt the same way in the past w/ messaging guys. I don't want to sound conceited or like my favourite subject is myself. But, I do think it's good to point out what you have in common w/ a young lady!

Pixy,

A Master's Degree and living in a "ghetto" apartment?

I would not write to her but....:

Hi Jane,

Montana is Gorgeous and certainly can be called "God's Country". Your in the right place for fossils. I have a question I hope you can answer.

I would like to know how you handle your profession while being a Christian? I mean, many of your colleagues believe in Evolution and I would assume as a Christian that you believe in a literal Translation of Genesis and just how do you incorporate that into your work?

Also, what is your explanation for The Cambrian Explosion? I would love to hear that coming from a Christian.

Looking forward to your reply,

Steve

Hi Jane,

I spent a winter in Big Sky, Montana one day! I fell in love with the balmy 80 degrees below 0 wind chill up there! I'd like to hear about what you are learning in your study of Esther. I've raised horses and had a ranch in Colorado and a farm in Tennessee for a while. I love animals and especially like dogs and horses. I'd like to hear about what you are learning in your study of Esther.

I live in a log home in the Colorado mountains. It's fantastic here and Pikes Peak is just over the mountain behind me. There's a stream at the bottom of the mountain with several waterfalls. I like to go hiking down there. I hope to hear back from you. Be blessed!
