Some guys really like beer...:Mug:

How much is too much? What should a single

girl look for and be cautious about?

Several times a week drinking beer... but not

getting drunk...is that too much?

In bigger cities... people tend to go to sports bars.

Any suggestions on how to have discernment in this area for us gals?

THx! =)

Interesting... maybe find out how much of his off time he spends drinking. watch to see if he uses it to medicate. watch if he drinks liquor as opposed to beer. is it compatible with your drinking life and what you think about alcohol in general and what you're comfortable with and does it impede other values you want in someone special? Stick to that. And if you're uncertain and can't make any progress in figuring it out, then walk.

That said, one of my most favorite things to do in the world was go to the bowling ally with my friends and bowl and have a beer to unwind from what would usually be a really mundane day at work to be followed with a really mundane time off work, then repeat 5x. So it could be like that.

I don't think it's the frequency that causes problems. I think it's the motivation and the amount. I drink beer a lot. However, I can drink a six pack and you wouldn't be able to tell I had been drinking. And why do I drink? Because I like the taste of beer. If a guy is drinking to deal with problems or is getting noticeably drunk, you want to be more careful. Just because he has a beer after work or a glass of wine with dinner is no reason to worry.

It all depends what you, as an individual, feels comfortable with. Though in my opinion, if they are spending alot of money on alcohol, then I would question how they spend their money, that God has entrusted them with.

On the same note though, be careful yourself there Tulip89; drinking because you like the taste is gluttony and can also turn into alcoholism without being a problem either you or your partner realize.

I'd say you had it pretty well, but I do feel that frequency and amount should be taken into consideration in addition to reasons.

Gluttony is overconsumption to the point of waste, not drinking a drink that tastes good. I'm not really sure about the rest of your comment because I said that amount was important to consider too. One or two is no big deal.

So, the fact that I enjoy drinking coke means that I commit gluttony every time I succumb to having a glass? And because I love chocolate cake, I shouldn't eat a piece because I enjoy it and therefore am guilty of gluttony? If I have a beer because I like the taste, I'm a glutton?

Yes, I'm playing the devil's advocate. I don't drink beer (or any alcoholic drink) at all. But if I did, I don't see where that would necessarily be any worse than drinking a glass of coke or eating a piece of chocolate cake. I personally choose not to, however, because 1) I don't like the way it smells, 2) it can get expensive, 3) it can ruin my testimony among Christians and non-Christians (and besides, my job contract forbids it), and 4) I can see myself getting addicted to it because of my personality and tendencies.

Anything in excess is gluttony. If I drank coke or ate chocolate cake to the point of gaining weight or ruining my health (or even spending excess money on those items), that is wrong. It's gluttony. If I drank beer until I became drunk (or perhaps even slightly tipsy), or spent money on it that is really needed elsewhere, that's wrong too.

I don't think making a blanket statement that "drinking because you like the taste is gluttony" is a wise remark.

The second part, "can also turn into alcoholism without being a problem either you or your partner realize", is a valid statement in many cases. Alcohol is a very addictive substance for some people. It's not especially addictive for others.

Anyway, that's just my two cents worth.

Um, maybe I should put down my own opinion about "how much is too much" since I did butt in on the guy's thread!

As a girl, I look for a guy who does not drink at all. The reasons are the same as those I listed in my previous post. I don't think it's a sin to drink. I just choose not to, and I want him to make the same choice. It's just a personal preference thing and lifestyle choice for me.

Ultimately I think the amount comes down to how it affects each person. If my mom had two glasses of wine with dinner, she'd be gone for the night. When I have two glasses of wine, I don't feel a thing. While alcoholism/alcohol abuse/alcohol dependency is a serious problem, responsible alcohol consumption rarely leads to it. When someone cuts himself off after two or three to make sure it doesn't affect him, that's far from even alcoholic tendencies.
