Mowing--yes, Mowing!!!

This is the first house I've ever owned and I bought a place on 2 1/2 lots. My house is small and my yard is HUGE!!!!!!

Anyway, I finally got a mower that I can start and operate by myself. It's an electric one and yes, I love it---cord and all. It's just like vacuuming!!!!!! But how do you get rid of the lawn lines???? Am I supposed to mow in one direction and then go back over it the other way??? My yard is so big that would take for hours....the lines do disappear after a day or so.Maybe I'm being impatient (again). I know NOTHING about mowing but a lot about gardening as I took a nursery management course. So any advice would be great! Oh, and I've burned up 2 weedeaters trying to trim around the place. They've lasted about half a summer each. This is my second summer with this lawn. HELP!

There's this stuff they used in Vietnam called Agent Orange. It's a defoliant; it kills all plants. That might be a good solution for your lawn.

http://www.allaboutlawns.com

I always to to ask.com to ask a question...lol I copied and pasted to help u out....the web address can help u if u want it..

Lawn Mower Techniques

■Even Lines. Make sure that your lawn mower stays true to its course by keeping the wheels at least two inches inside the last line you cut.

■Frequent Emptying. Your lawn mower can only hold so many grass clippings. Frequently emptying your catcher will keep those annoying grass clumps from collecting.

■Knowing Your Land. You should always run your lawn mower across hilly portions of your lawn in order to keep the lines straight and to keep your footing.

Once you have finished cutting your lawn, your lawn mower will require some basic maintenance. These are simple chores that you should complete every time you cut to keep your lawn mower in tip-top condition and lengthen its life.

Lawn Mower Protection

■Washing. You should always wash your lawn mower off with a hose after cutting to remove grass clippings.

■Oiling. Adding a quick shot of oil to working parts will keep your mower from rusting as it sits in your shed.

■Storing. Your shed should have ample space for your lawn mower to sit without objects resting on it.

IAN!! I can't believe that this woman wrote asking for good solid advice about how to get rid of lines in her lawn and you suggested Agent Orange. Come on now, we both know that a small heard of goats is easier to come by and does the job much better.

Thanks everyone for all the great tips---even you, Ian. I can appreciate a person with a dry sense of humor as I am the same way! I think Cattle man has the answer I was looking for, but the website tips is definitely interesting. Who knows maybe by next summer I'll be one of those who is making pictures with my grass for all the small aircraft who hover over my town! :peace:

Thanks again!!!

Hmmm... that's true - goats and cows do a dandy job. See, my lawn is DIRT, and I'm never there to mow what little weed/grass like substance there is anyway, so what do I know?

Not to mention hey - goats and cows, then you get milk too!
