I believe there's an important question that needs to be posed to Christian men.

Why is it when you get the oppurtunity for an amazing vacation in Rome, granted it's a beautiful city, do you stand yourself right in front of the roman Colleseum and snap a picture of you smiling?!

You know they KILLED us there, right?!

People have their photographs taken in Jerusalem...Moscow...Washington...Dachau ...all are monuments to Mammon in some form or another and people will be people ...they enjoy having photographs commemorating their visit to places of significance...males and females...perhaps it reminds them later of being happy or just to share their memories of where they have been...What an incredibly inane question.

 Good point! I'm not really too hard either, it's really quite traumatizing if you research the kind of stuff they used to do to Christians. I know that "Christians" burned a lot of pagans and witches, but I think pagans and, more concerning, other "Christians" probably murdered more of God's people than anyone else. Perhaps it's like the cross, and it's become a sign of victory.

What a brilliant and insightful question. (granted one person's musings are not the same as another)

The Colosseum itself was not guilty of anything. It was the Empire - it's leaders and it's people that committed these violent acts against Christians. It now merely serves as a monument and a testimony of our Lord's victory over the "kings of the earth" (see Ps. 2). Christ has defeated the Roman Empire. At least for me, I would focus on that aspect more than it's temporary vile use centuries ago.

Personally, I would find it more appalling to see someone smiling in a picture in front of the White House -- which is currently engaged in all out war and persecution of our God, His Christ, and all of the saints.

It really just depends on how one views things, I suppose. Thanks again for a thought provoking question.

@ dunravin,You bring up a good point, a lot of the pictures people take are in front of monuments that have a terrible history in one way or another, and certainly represent evil in one way or another. I suppose it was an inane question, but if someone didn't ask an inane question or two, especially an inane person like myself... they would never get asked.

@ DTHM, It is a bit traumatizing, yes! The Lord's people have been persecuted in every nation and harmed in every unspeakable manner and killed, I would like to see it as you and IWA see it, as a victory, and a sign that our Lord and savior has conquered the kings of the earth and their cities and once mighty and strong walls are now nothing but ruins.

@IWalkAlone, Thank you, I'm glad you saw something in the question (however badly worded it might've been) You really hit the nail on the head, Christians do sometimes gather for a picture in front of the White House or some other monument, that does represent persecution of the saints and the true God. I note that it isn't something done consciously, we just go about life often doing silly things that don't mean much to us now in this day and age, but I believe Christians of the past would have looked at us strange knowing that we take our pictures even with certain leaders who persecute us and our God.

lol wow I honestly never thought of it like that. I wonder what one of the apostles' reactions would be if someone were some how able to show them a photo of that.

lol, you give a funny perspective on it Apostelle.

I suppose if I managed to make my way into a place where hundreds of people were killed and I lived to tell about it (despite it being hundreds or thousands of years later) that I too would feel a little accomplished, how ever silly.

Yes Renov! What would the apostles and Christians of a later period think if they could see us taking selfies in front of places they themselves couldn't set foot upon.

It's I think questions like this prove that so many Christians are ignorant of real fact and assume that whatever they are told about Christian History is true. I wrote a dissertation on the History of the Church in Rome and I found no no evidence that any Christians were ever killed in the Roman Coliseum. They were killed in some of the smaller arena's in other parts of the Empire, usually by gladiators and not animals though. It's a Hollywood myth and a common story delivered up by those who never do the research to see if it is actually true.

I wonder if you give the same consideration to the fact that nearly everywhere you stand in this country and have your picture taken is a place that once belonged to thousands of people that Christians saw fit to slaughter and destroy so that they could build a nation for the purpose of practicing their religion freely. I believe the thought of having one's picture taken at the Roman Coliseum pales in comparison. I'm just trying to put it in perspective.

SomeBuddysDream, is it truly a myth that many Christians were killed in the roman Colosseum? I had no idea, that would be interesting to look into.

As to "Christians" slaughtering people, I think those who kill in the name of the Lord when explicitly commanded not to in the Word cannot really call themselves Christians. Unrepentant murderers have no place in the Kingdom of Heaven, "by their fruits ye shall know them."
