Ok my brothers in The Lord......
Posted : 30 Sep, 2013 05:55 PM

.....in reference to my last post(Wrestling until your breakthrough), after reflection and thought, I found it necessary to re-word my question because all I'm trying to understand better is what really matters most to a man of God that he would virtually "wrestle" with The Lord until he received it or at least a breakthrough concerning it.

Sorry if I limited it only to finding your life partners.....just wishful thinking(smile)lol!!!!

I don't understand why Christians have to think the Bible is all about them. There are no other examples in Scripture or the New Testament about anyone wrestling with the Lord. Even Paul doesn't address it. There is no reason for us to believe that we have to wrestle with God for anything. It's another unfounded teaching that sounds good from the pulpit but once you think about it it has no foundation. It's no wonder so many Christians are spiritually underdeveloped and overly egoistic.

Jesus told us that if we ask we will receive. Period. Seek and you will find. Period. Knock and it will be opened for you. Period. He never told us we had to wrestle for anything. Why would anyone make up a non-true teaching that is the opposite of the teachings of Jesus? Because they are egoistic and not spiritual.

Jacobs wrestling has nothing to do with us. It had to do with Jacob. He needed to be taught that he was not who he thought he was. He was made humble and able to go forward from there to do what God had planned for him.

I don't wrestle with the Lord. I believe that the power and grace of Father will bring to me what I desire when it is time for me to have it. That doesn't keep me from looking for it and asking for it from time to time but I certainly don't waist my spiritual energy wrestling Him for it.

Well my brother let me see.....the last time I read His Word, starting from the old testament to the new testament, there were constant "types and shadows" pointing to my Savior, maybe not yours.........Jesus The Christ!!!! The bible in my opinion has EVERYTHING to do with me as long as I know that that same Christ Jesus has and will always live in me, by the power of His Holy Spirit!!

That's why I put the word "wrestling" in parenthesis because it was not to be taken literally, but to be a form of pressing in prayer, reading His word and meditating upon any particular area in one's life that needs answers or direction.....which I don't know about you, my brother but my faith in The Lord drives me to seek Him diligently until I receive my breakthroughs.....but how you get yours and how I get mine....well to each his own! Hopefully we all as believers will eventually fulfill our PURPOSES for our lives in this earth.....to me nothing else is more important!!!!

I understand what you are saying. I simply don't believe in the teaching. Just as I don't believe the concept of pressing in or getting a breakthrough is Biblical.

If we follow the examples of Christ none of this is necessary. Paul tells us we have the mind of Christ. We should use it like He used it. We have free access to the throne of God who gives freely to us.

Mat_7:9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?

Mat_7:10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?

Mat_7:11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

Rom_8:32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

1Co_2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

I have learned two important things that have brought more goodness and blessings to my life than I could have imagined. They are:

Heb_13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

1Th_5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

When we stop focusing on what we want or think we need and practice giving thanks for everything in our home, our lives, our jobs, our families, and whatever else, then things start changing for us. Then we experience blessings and abundance in our lives.

Again my brother I'll repeat.....better yet I'll say it this way, what works for you to receive the necessary blessings in your life, of and by The Lord and what works the same in mine, will obviously come to what we believe!! I've come to a place of agreeing to disagree with you....why because at the end of the day, we who believe are ALL suppose to be His children, prayerfully through Christ Jesus! The bottom line is does what we do with what He's blessed us with, ultimately used to give Him ALL honor and ALL glory...........period!!!

Yes His Word is to be our guide by the power of The Holy Spirit......how we get to our destiny of purpose.........well again to each his own, just as long as we all get there!! Be blessed!!

That was quite an interesting question you've asked dear,

Before and after you've clarified it.

Was interested in hearing what the guys had to say

And there's so so much to pick when reading the passage about Jacob.

Its one of those broad and diversed passages in the bible, were one gets new revelation that's different from the previous one when reading through the passage again.

You always ask interesting questions.

I too see wrestling with God as striving against him and his will and plan for me so I try to avoid that because he knows what's best better than I do and will do whatever he wants anyway whether I like it or not. We should be concerned with what he wants and what we can do for him; not what we want and what he can do for us. Friends and loved ones get ill and die and there's no way in hell you can convince me that happened because some one wasn't praying or otherwise not trying hard enough. Wrestling, if you will. All things happen so that God can be glorified, so if we're going to wrestle for anything then it should be how to better accomplish that and only that.

As in my original post and upon reflecting on the response of others....the word "wrestling" may not have been the best word for context and reference. But as I stated in my last post before yours, R8E8 and Sisygirl, my main objective in this question was to simply identify the process of receiving direction and guidance from The Lord!!!! Obviously there are different ways in accomplishing that!

Again how we ALL get to our planned destiny in HIM, is I gather the beauty of the journey!! Stay bless my brothers and sisters in The Lord!

*Note*----There's always a wonderful process in stimulating, thought-provoking conversation.....this was one of the ways I always learned in my schooling! Thank you all for your intelligent and purposeful feed back(smile)!

Oh, I see. I guess simply Bible reading + Holy Spirit then definitely leading to prayer. I don't know if I've said this on here before or not, but you can't either just pray, or just read your Bible; the two go hand in hand and perpetuate growth when used in combination. Definitely a deep deep force to be reckoned with for sure. For me Bible reading + Holy Spirit + prayer provides a great amount of insight and clarity into understanding who God is and what he wants. For me it hasn't really resulted in having any real tangible goals, but rather it just moves me back to where I need to be and has just been teaching me how to have a more open heart and cope with life in general like letting go of and healing from issues from past hurts and being receptive towards what I am encountering in the present, a better ability to glorify God with my words and behaviors. Light driving out the darkness instead of just being a powerless victim to sin.

I really think the question was misunderstood altogether

The usage of the word 'wrestling' was mistaken with literally fighting with God.... Which was only a metaphor

Humans cannot fight with God. I understood you lady from the very first question before clarifying what you've meant, which did no good apparently.

Suppose its because I was still in that same spirit with you after reading through the chapter.

Be blessed darling!!
