PURITY?Posted : 3 Feb, 2012 05:19 AMThe single men and women, teens in my church are embarking on getting purity rings after some intensive study and prayer on the subject and what the bible (the final authority) says about it. Then we are coming together for a small prayer ceremony. this got me thinking... if you wore a purity ring what would it mean to you? |

PURITY?Posted : 3 Feb, 2012 06:04 PMi was invited by a friend to His Daughter's purity ceremony awhile ago,and it seemed rather odd to me,a Father placing a ring on ring finger of the left hand if His daughter, but really none of my business....however my suspicion was,now only fella's that have no respect for marriage or whether a girl/lady is married are going to make a play for this young lady,as,She now appears Married...and my suspicions were soon proven correct :( |

PURITY?Posted : 6 Feb, 2012 09:57 PMThe purity rings seems more like bragging to the nice guys and like a challenge to the evil men. Most men don't believe that the girl wearing one is really pure and that she is probably trying to shake an unpure image. If you do it for Jesus then go ahead but as with most pro-Jesus ideas they don't help you with everyone else. |

PURITY?Posted : 7 Feb, 2012 11:45 PMWhen I think of purity rings, I think of the scribes and Pharisees. Those who like to show off their "righteousness". Purity is betwen you and God. Also, it seems some people have a strange definition of purity (after reading this same topic in Ask a Girl). As the old saying goes, you cant unring a bell. You can be chaste, but pure is not something you can be after having sexual relations. |

PURITY?Posted : 8 Feb, 2012 04:51 AMOh I know that, thanks for your comments so far guys. To me the purity rings is something that is beautiful and meaningful to the wearer, I believe no matter what you do there will still be lusts in this world and lusts in the flesh. Right now there is a tidal wave of sexual impurity in schools and sadly in the church. The purity rings if people want to take it as a bragging statement then so be it. Men and women brag about their conquests and are not ashamed, I would rather the youth have something that they are not ashamed of either. Could you imagine the incredible witness it could be for other young people who ask about it? It doesn't matter to me which finger it's on. I did some research on this topic and discovered that a lot of Christian couple have stop and go rules. |

PURITY?Posted : 8 Feb, 2012 10:05 AMDevotedandtrue, I disagree with your definition of purity. There is a difference between being pure and being a virgin. Being impure is willingly having sex outside of marriage. You can get married and have plenty of sex with your spouse and still be pure, not a virgin, put still pure. And what about those who get raped? Are they no longer pure? They did not willingly have sex, so why would they be impure? Purity does involve an action, but it also involves an intent. Just as Jesus berated the Pharisees for following the LETTER of the law, but not the SPIRIT of the law. |

PURITY?Posted : 8 Feb, 2012 11:37 AMI agree thanks Cobbler, it's simple bands saying true love waits and such stuff. You know what this reminds me of the sign of circumcision among the jews as a sign of covenant between them and God, then th circumcision of the heart that all believer are required to have. To me this is another sign of covenant between you and God to not led our bodies to sexual immorality. I hope all who choose to wear them really are committed and not because it has become fashionable to them. |

PURITY?Posted : 8 Feb, 2012 02:10 PMFilthy rags spring to mind - being 'pure' (and let's face it, it's us who decide whether we're 'pure' enough to wear the ring) in one area doesn't make one pure. I'm a sinner and there's no getting around that; the only thing I want to make public is His love for me, not my obedience (in one area). |

PURITY?Posted : 9 Feb, 2012 03:56 AM@cobbler. No, what youre speaking of is "purity" of heart. Since the OP was speaking of young people, I assume she meant young teenagers, the rings are symbols of virginity. No ring can sybolize purity of heart, because no one is that pure. Every human has had lustful thoughts and lusting in your heart is as much of a sin as actually having sex, in the eyes of God. |

PURITY?Posted : 9 Feb, 2012 05:42 AMThis is a fairly common topic on this forum, and it always seems to me that every time this topic is brought up there are plenty of people who try to muddy the water to justify their previous indiscretions. |

PURITY?Posted : 9 Feb, 2012 06:30 AMok, cobbler. I understand that with the condition you have you have trouble understanding when someone is trying to be subtle. So let me be blunt. If a woman is raped or had a bike accident, while she may no longer have a hymen, she is still a virgin because there was no intent on her part to sin. We did not have "purity rings" when I was a teenager and even if we had had them, I would not have worn one. I am 44 years old and still a virgin and I have absolutely no need to wear my faith as a sign saying "Look how righteous I am". |
