Is it me or is there more scammers than ever before?
Posted : 14 Aug, 2011 07:52 AM

Hi

I joined CDFF a few years ago and was very active in the forums, etc, the first few months. Met a lot of new classy men and women alike who remain friends to thius day. Then I stayed away for a long time because of business and moving from Cali back to Florida. Now I'm back at CDFF and there seems to be more scammers on here than ever before. What do you think? I've been considering pursing someone from outside the USA but now having serous second thoughts about it,

Whats your thoughts on this subject??

Although "scammer" is a universally used term here, I don't believe everyone's idea of who a scammer might be, IS universal.

A scammer is simply a person who perpetrates a scam. One whose sole agenda is defined by self interest and whose actions have nefarious intent. Common terms for such a person might be: bunco-artist, con-artist, con-man/con-woman, defrauder, diddler, gipper, goldbricker, gyper, hornswoggler, mulcts, nobbler, rooker, short-changer, victimizer, chiseler, grifter, swindler, gouger, player, beguiler, cheater, deceiver, trickster, slicker, welsher and sharpie...

If I have left out any one group of you...I do apologize...

Yes, I suspect this site has it's fair share of scammers...it's not as if anyone registrant has been vetted. Even sites where you must pay for membership don't vet their registrants...although one might assume simply by paying for such an online service one might garner a better class of individuals..NOT TRUE.

So where does that leave a site such as this? Considering the law of averages....The idea that probability will influence all occurrences in the long term, that one will neither win nor lose all of the time...it would be fair to assume that not everyone you meet will be a person of good intent and that if you continue using this site long term with the influx of new registrants daily...eventually you will come across a scammer.

Since you cannot police morality...and quality of character, be vigilant and practice discernment when choosing to interact with others. When you do come across someone whose apparent intent is deceptive...there is always the BLOCK feature and CDFF encourages the reporting of suspected scammers.

I've never come across anyone on here that I believe to be a scammer. I've chatted up a few stinkers though...but even they seem to serve a purpose. They help define for me what it is I don't want in a longer term relationship tus allowing me to focus on the type of person, I do want.

Best of luck to all of you...

I like your definition of scammer OShea. Pretty much anyone who has an ill-willed agenda is a scammer. You mentioned players, and I thought it was good that you lumped them in with scammers. This may be an ambiguous question, but how do you classify players then? What makes a man or a woman a player? Is it when playing with anothers emotions become perfunctory? Is any of that acceptable? If so, to what degree. And if not, why not? Just curious. I personally don't like players lol ... but I'd like to hear your view on it.

I don't know if there are more scammers than before. CDFF HAS done a better job of banning those who truly are false and only after money, etc. within 24 hours (or less) of their profile being created. As for pursuing a relationship outside your country, I suggest you follow the same general guidelines you would for a long-distance, in-country relationship. Go slow. Communicate a lot. Pray a lot. Get others opinion. God's blessing on your search!

Oh...so many questions LIVE...where do I begin.

How do I classify a player?

By his/her intent. If such a person's sole agenda is defined by self interest and whose actions have nefarious intent the result being to emotionally trespass on another person's tender feelings...INTENTIONALLY knowing they are using deceptive practices to entice that person and with callous disregard for the outcome...that is what I would classify a "player".

Is any of that acceptable? If so, to what degree. And if not, why not?

NO! There are no degrees of half truths when telling a lie. If you intentionally mislead another person into believing things you know to be false...how is that ever acceptable? What good can ever come from leading a person on? Doing so ties up their emotions into knots and invariably may effect how they view others in the future. If you have been "played" the trick is knowing not to negatively judge the intent of ALL because the actions of ONE have been ill-conceived.

I hope this answers your inquiries LIVE.

P.S. I seeing your font in chat, lol.

Thanks for the reply Oshea

I'm amazed that you've never came across a scammer on here. I get anywhere from one to 3 per day and at times more. Maybe the men are more targeted which is one of the things Im trying to find out with this post.

Like you mentioned I do report suspected scammers to CDFF and as always, after their activities are searched they are always banned by CDFF within a day.

It sounds like the women have much less to be concerned about when it comes to these kind of people.

BUT MEN BEWARE GUARD THE HEART!:boxing:

I'm there with ya in that seasoned with salt n pepper age bracket HD and get a few of those nice lil surprises in my mail box too, though mine are coming more like 1-2 every other day avg. and easily discerned in most cases... I've also been here over the past couple years and for me it's about the same. Thankfully the good out weighs the not so good and have enjoyed meeting some many godly and wonderful women in conversation and fellowship. CDFF gets my thumbs up for the great job they do and with our help will continue to be a great place to come together and meet ;)
